呵呵,前后加起来一个月不到的样子。
每天睡觉前看十分钟催眠。虽然作者
有些罗嗦,但总体来说交代得挺清楚
的。本来以为还有一百多页,结果一
下子结束了,后面全是索引和参考文
献。
二十一世纪的新东西介绍得比较少,
这一点很遗憾。
感谢一下小茶。

医疗保险
大病,有一个朋友做过手术,公司的mutual+社会保险=全报,这个主要看公司好坏
小公司上的保险反而好,当然比不了total,areva这种半国企
看牙,补过一次,全报,镶了一颗,前后算上1000欧,报了900多
眼镜,一年两副,近视+太阳=100欧,高出的都能报掉,公司小妞们买channel墨镜,然
后开假发票,算到近视镜片上,就都报了
假期
我头一年只工作8个月,不夸张,挺痛苦的,世界上没啥新鲜地方可以玩了
一直流传的笑话是公务员上班晚来的经常和早走的扶梯上见
当然比西班牙还是累的,给客户打电话,10点以前不在,4点以后不在,中间两个小时
吃饭
女人的就夸张了,生孩子+conges payes annuels+RTT+arret maladie+conge scolaire
,一年就剩不了几天了
同事一男的做个手术,去年只上了5个月

精辟。 生物就是善于画“长生不死”的大饼; 物理看着没办法。
这两天在看Ken Burns拍的癌症历史的小电影(从The Emperor of All Maladies: A
Biography of Cancer (by Siddhartha Mukherjee)改编来的)。 大涨眼界。
癌症最开始的搞法就是强硬割除(乳癌有时整个乳房都割除)。 这个太野蛮机械了。
后来发现很多情况下割不顶用。
然后就采用放疗来杀癌症细胞。结果这种放疗搞法有时还导致新的癌症疾病。在很多情
况下放疗还是不管用: 病人在寿命延长几个月后照死不误。
再后来,生物就加入了战斗:发现可以在基因层次解释癌症病因。 就划大饼说可以用
基因疗法可以彻底根除癌症。 鼓动政府花了无穷多的研究经费(从Nixcon时代开始)
。 结果现在发现造成癌症的基因原因太多了;而且这种基因角度的疗法也许有本质上
的限制:癌症细胞也是自适应的,对于已有的基因疗法,它们会自己产生新的变异。
这种生物画大饼的现状估计还会继续: 人太怕死了。

呵呵,唱歌倒是从来没想过,一般平时唱得机会也比较少,开party什么的,
都是放音乐,跳跳舞,有时有钢琴的时候,有人即兴弹上几曲。。。
平时也哼哼上几句,不过我觉得“发音”对我来说相对困难小一些--有大概半
年多时间,我天天坚持给偶的“老师”念上半个小时的书,Petit Nicolas,小王
子,丁丁历险记什么的,然后她在旁边帮我纠正,我觉得收效很大。
我特别喜欢的歌,倒是有用心思去练,不过不多,比如: La maladie d'amour
还有就是,Romeo & Juliette(comédie musicale)里面那首romeo和la mort
双人舞时,romeo唱的J'ai peur。喜欢的人好像不多,不过我却是很有共鸣,
觉得整首歌写出了偶当时什么都不在乎,却有些迷茫的心境。。。

其实我觉得法语不好听就是从听法国歌开始的,那个发音总是有一种很滑稽让我发笑的感

我本来想说让他们看 interpreter of maladies 或者 A few short notes on
tropical butterflies 之类的非美国文化背景的短篇小说集,然后发现这两本都是印
度非洲 setting 的,我得弄几本有亚洲啊什么的,多元一点啊

Read “Native Speaker” and it was enjoyable. My only objection is the book
structure: two stories of the protagonist were going in alternatively
chapters, and I ended reading the even and odd chapters separately.
Other good novels on the immigrant experience in America: Jhumpa Lahiri
“Intepreter of Maladies” (Pulitzer 2000), Jeffrey Eugenides “Middlesex”
(Pulitzer 2003)

i read it during some personal life crisis many years ago...almost remember
everything in that book...
she has a first novel coming out...the namesake...though the review is not
that crazy for interpreter...i plan to read it, when i have time...i love her
writing...attention to details, and dicisive(?)...
i bought middlesex for a long time without reading it //blush
another recent immigrant novel is "brick lane"...reviews good...

I read God of Small Things last year, and liked it. Haven't heard of
Shantaram. May check it out.
There are quite some good Indian writers. I also like Jhumpa Lahiri's
"Interpreter of Maladies".
Plan to read her new "Namkesake" soon.
