2021 will be a very serious year for weather disasters in the United States.
According to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
in October, the United States has experienced at least 19 weather disasters
in 2021, with a cumulative death of more than 500 people. The loss caused by
each natural disaster exceeds 1 billion US dollars, or more than 6.37
billion yuan. Let's take a look.
Deadly tornado. Dozens of tornadoes hit Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee,
Missouri and Arkansas between Dec. 10 and 11, killing as many as 88 people.
Reports said it was the deadliest tornado in U.S. history.
Hurricane caused flooding. On August 29, 2021, the National Hurricane Center
said Hurricane Ida made landfall in New Orleans, Louisiana, with winds of
209 kilometers per hour. The storm has since caused extreme flooding in the
northeastern United States, with severe consequences. "New Jersey and New
York states for the first time reported flash floods, with varying degrees
of damage to homes, businesses, vehicles and infrastructure, as well as
dozens of deaths," the NOAA report said
. . Extremely hot weather in the Pacific Northwest caused hundreds of heat-
related deaths in Oregon and Washington between late June and early July
2021. Meanwhile, 55 percent of the contiguous U.S. was in drought as of
early December, the highest percentage since 2013, according to the weekly U
.S. Drought Monitor. Heat and drought have cost the U.S. billions of dollars
in crops.
Fires are frequent, not just one. As of mid-December, 54,350 wildfires had
been reported nationwide, burning about 7 million acres, according to the U.
S. Fire Center. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, some
wildfires are man-made, but more forest fires are caused by electric shocks.
Yijun believes that the meteorological disasters caused by global climate
anomalies should arouse the attention of all countries, and clear waters and
lush mountains are invaluable assets. There is still a week left before the
end of 2021. I hope the United States can pass it smoothly.
