If both tenure track, then associate has higher rank and thus higher salary
but cannot apply for some grants such as NSF career award. Also most of the
time the tenure track associate position only has 3 years tenure clock while
assistant has 6 years tenure clock.

发帖数: 183 | 12 问题是一般人说起助教，理解的是teaching assistant 吧。有人（还是硕士）问我毕
业后当什么，我说先当assistant professor, 他说，哦，助教，我只好纠正说是助教
授。我还看到国内论坛里有人（也是大学里的人）说美国的助理教授一般没有资格独立
教课，大概他也理解成teaching assistant 了。好笑的事情多了。
