with similar research interests but possibly lower capability? another
reason is U.S. universities prefer diversity and avoid academic incest...
but you can get a position somewhere else and do it very well and get
invited to go back one day....but, why you want to go back to your mother
department? Normally people do not want to have collegues who were their
advisors and course professors...

different from yours... |

school got the positions, but in different department.I think it depends on
a certain situation. |
