is completely opposite of the senior members (or at least one). How can you
ranked someone who has two R01s and a VA grants lower than someone who
barely has one R01 and hardly productive at all. My top two are all Chinese
and I feel ashamed even looking at their CVs. |

one is from North Carolina (very big bull) and other two one is from
Michigan and the other is from New York. In my opinion, one R01 is too
risky for the school to hire as an endowed chair. I will prefer to hire
someone who is younger and more aggressive. Since the chair is hold by the
cancer center, I hope the search committee chair over-rule them. |

a good endowed chair will also help my NIH grant especially he/she is in
your department and write you a good letter of support.

发帖数: 2041 | 7 That's true, but their top candidates are not impressive at all. Also, we
just about to hire someone (let's hope it is not a tenure position although
the description is one) who is not qualified for the position but he knows
the search chair and it is the only candidate interviewed. As far as I
know all the junior faculties (who bring in majority of the money) are
currently very unhappy about it.

a damn good one due to her knowledge in biology. So don't ask me unless I
know you. She won't help you with ideas or how to format R01, but she will
make sure your grant flows and is understandable.

发帖数: 2041 | 15 Sure, why not? I have seen worse, and he is an American. Also, posting
online is very different from the formal writing. At least I know that I'm
bad at writing. Some people don't even realize it until their papers or
grants were trashed by the reviewers. Worse, someone told you that your
paper/grant is at best a undergraduate research project (someone's R01 I
know).

interview someone 5 year from retirement with R01 expire in 2 years other
than someone with a R01, a R21, and a VA grant. The guys is about 1 year
from full professorship and one SC member keeps saying he is too young for
the endowed chair. I was like what the hell, in chemistry, all the chosen
ones have their endowed chairmanship in mid-30s. This guy is at least 10
years older (45), it is not too young! Is it even legal to discriminate
people because someone is younger? Also, the person probably doesn't know
that our current department chair, university professor...(he has a lot of
titles), was hired 12 years ago at age of 47.

It sounds like age may not be the reason, but more like an excuse. Did your
senior faculty feel threatened somehow? Will this endowed chair also be your
department chair to influence your promotion?

horrible hire. His R01 is running out and let's just say he manages his lab
horribly. The other endowed chair favors one person he knows (he ranked
him #1) even though the guys publication over 20 years don't even match to
the younger candidate with only 10 years of time.
No, my department chair is not going anywhere other than probably an
internal Deanship. He is the 3rd or 4th highest pay employee in the
university, he is even more powerful than my famous Dean in the school and
his office is right next to mine...

们senior faculty可能是有原因不能明说，可能为公，可能为私。你就静观其变。一年
