p********j 发帖数: 7 | 1 I have a question about h1-b extension.
Now a research assistant professor at a university, I've used up my first 3-
year h1-b and ready to file an extension through a lawyer assigned by the
university. Here is the email I received from him about the extension: (the
job offer letter does say the appointment will continue without a definite
duration)
"We will ask for 3 years on the H-1B, but it may be possible that USCIS will
only grant it for 1 year. Typically extensions are only for 1 year unl |

You H1B just past 3 years, not 6 years! |
h******3 发帖数: 456 | 4 you H1B doesn't need tor extend, only need to renew for another three years.
good luck |
p********j 发帖数: 7 | 5 thank all for answering. I also feel the same but don't know why he said so.
Anyway, he did write 3-years extension on form I-539.
It does seem that after 6-years it should be called 'extension' and before
that should be called 'renewal'. However, on form I-539, the related word is
'an extension of stay in my current status'.

A*******d 发帖数: 1799 | 7 You cannot file I-539 for your H1B visa renew. Your dependent should file
I-539.
Please look through the I-539 instruction. |
