发帖数: 1285 | 1 今天和recruiter聊了一下on-site的安排，她给了三个组让我选：Software Engineer,
Software Engineer/SRE, 和 Software Deployment Engineer。从兴趣讲我个人的第
一选择是SDE，然后是SRE, 最后是SWE。SDE的职位我本来不知道（我只看了google在我
们本地的openning），今天电面我的engineer是这个组的，他给recruiter建议我去这
个组。但是SDE要去google总部，而另两个职位我家附近就有。如果选SDE，就可能要跟
家人分开一阵。
我是纯理科千老，没有很强的CS背景，虽然用Linux系统很多年，但对系统深层结构还
不是很了解。如果选择SRE的话，面试的时候是不是有可能因为答不上系统问题影响最
终成绩？
SWE我觉得可能面试的问题我会应付的好一点，但是竞争是不是相对大一些？另外两个
组都需要额外的skill set，可能qualified的人会相对少一些。
如果仅仅从拿到offer的角度讲，我应该选哪个组去面试？希望有经验的给些建议。 |

程师，据说平时都不太用coding，主要管实际的调度。个人以为这种方向很窄，将来不
是很好换工作。

understand why goog named those engineers this way. do they deploy a lot to
production?

和系统维护大概各50%。 Deployment我专门问她是不是QA，她说不是，大约60%-70%的
时间做code developing。
不过谢谢你的意见，如果真的是以系统维护为主我肯定不会喜欢的。我喜欢这两个职位
主要是都以se为主，但是又可以学到不同的东西，工作上也可以有些不同的职责调剂。

没有做过的话，我觉得这类活和SRE差不多，挺繁琐的，系统有了
什么问题要有很强的trouble-shooting的能力，编程而言可能
以scripting为主吧，应该不太需要系统编程的。我觉得可能还要带
pager。

发帖数: 1285 | 15 多谢。这是我第一次找industrial工作，基本没什么概念。所有知识都是从recruiter
那里来的。这两个职位都有on call duty。
SDE应该是以scripting为主，面我的工程师想让我去的一个原因是因为我会python。
看来还是传统的se现在比较适合我，第一份工参与一些完整的project 可能更好一些。

The recruiter assures me that much coding will be involved. I'm just not
sure.

have 50K+ users. most of your time is spent on parsing the log, using
scripting.
well, lots of creativity is required too coz the log is TB/day.

traditional SE. I love scripting, but I don't want it to be the major part
of my job.

my friends' experience with you. He failed an interview of SE at Google, but
they eventually gave him a SRE offer anyway. |
