Deal all,
I am a PhD working for a big company R&D in the NYC area My background is EE
(which became biomedical engineering) and my work experience is in the
intersection of EE and pharm/biotech. I obtained my green card.
I realized a limit in my upward mobility and became aware that it is
possible to change career to IP or Corp. attorney, where my experience can
be better leveraged. I also realized an IP attorney's writing capability is
not too much different from what I have possessed already.

you are doing well already. patent attorney is a trash job compared to what
you have. And for sure you have a lot of leverage for corporate attorney
since you are such a young fellow.
The best advice I can give: go to harvard or yale considering your
distinguished track record. I agree Fordham is totally not worth it as it
will taint your resume. Columbia and NYU are not prestigious enough. DC
schools are only for losers.

usually harvard and yale graduates have hard time answering the question "
where did you go for college?" I've heard "a school in New Haven" and "just
a school in Boston" I'm sure there won't be a difficulty for LZ to answer
the question and this is part of the reason I urged him to go one of these
places.

Eh...actually, for mot Wharton kids, their vocabulary contains only the term
"Wharton"; "Upenn" is not even on their radar. Upenn is a disgrace to
Wharton kids and they'd be happy to go their separate way.

In the legal profession, "where you went for under" and "where you went for
law school" are definitely among the first 10 questions people ask.
Pathetic but so what. Where you are from defines you when people don't know

B-school graduates are 10x worse. Their whole purpose of life is to network

the problem is that if one goes to for example an alaska county law school (
for the sake of not offending anybody here) his chance of getting a good
paying job which allows him to drive a S500 in the next few years is much
slimmer. also a lot of doors will be virtually closed for him, like becoming
a supreme court justice, or even a circuit judge, or a professorship in a
top law school.
sure he can still make millions by practicing law or doing business of some
sort. if he really makes it and

What do you really want to do a couple of years down the road?
If you intend to specialize in patent prosecution and stay with your current

How did you guys do at LSAT? Where did the OP state that he is inclined to
stay with his current employer AFTER LS? What prohibits him from getting

I found this whole thread mean-spirited, without offering any help of
substance whatsoever. The concern of OP is valid given his/her circumstances
and does not deserve the undue sarcasm.

I will try to offer my 0L's 2 cents.
If the circumstance dictates that you have to go PT and allows you to move
from NYC, then probably it is better to find employment with a law firm in
DC area willing to sponsor you through law school while working full time.
That way you can go to Georgetown, which although perennially hanging at the
very bottom of T14 by USNews is still T14 since it matters to you.
If you would like to take the plunge to go with the FT route, then you can't
go wrong with NYU

xoxo spice is ok so long as GTO did not lose his job over it. Also I found
even those "bored, taking ?s" threads tend to be more useful and to receive

The OP seems to me a person having given a lot of thoughts to where he/she
wants to be career wise and has done due diligence in researching the
schools and legal market. I failed to see how his/her post is "provoking".

I said "mild" xoxo spice, not the discriminating, sexist, racist types of
spices.
If I graduate from Harvard/MIT or whatever "elite" schools and now I want to
go for law school, I will probably have similar thought process like op's,
but I'd keep it to myself when I am seeking advice from people who I don't
know and all I can rely upon is their kindness. I think that makes a
difference. Sometimes being a fake is better than being straight.
respect is also to be earned, not automatically granted.

hehe, what's wrong with that after all? OP seems to have grounded confidence
that he/she can ace LSAT and his/her credentials would give him/her a fair
shot at NYU/CLS. The "arrogance" perceived by many here is so much different
from what CaliCat transpired a few weeks ago. So long as he/she can back it

I guess people do look at the same thing hrough different lenses. Remind me
of the recently top10 post about a project manager reminding someone
personal hygiene issues, which is perceived about many as insult while by
the others as being candid and with good faith.
In OP's case, I don't see much arrogance, maybe some naiveness, but mostly
candidness, trying to layout his/her thought process in front of you to seek
advice.
