far you have to run the pipe, i guess. Black iron pipe are not expensive at
all, if you can DIY, it is very cheap. If you have a unfinished basement,
it will almost be a piece of cake.

That depends on how far you have to run the pipe and how much finished area
need to be repaired after.
I like induction cooktop better now, but also find myself use steam oven a
lot.

advantages about electric oven:
1. Much safer, no risk of leaking, explosion, CO and CO2 poisoning.
2. No smell like gas.
3. Not competing Oxygen with you in your house, which means less new air
needed to be brought in, and cheaper heating/cooling cost.
4. No residue on your cooking utensils that is difficult to remove.
For normal cooking, your possible saving might not worth the benefits above,

stop working, with a gas stove, you can still cook and stay warm and your
pipe will not freeze. If you only have electric stove, you will be cold,
hungry and after a day or two, your water pipes will begin to freeze and
burst.
I assume your house do not have a back up generator.
How often do you hear that on the news? You can get electrocuted too.
I don't even think that should be a concer

However, whole house heating will not work with gas alone because
electricity is needed to run the fan to distribute the heat evenly to the
house.
Yes, you can have some cooking, and warming if you are close to the oven,
but don't expect much because you will use oxygen which has to be brought in
from outside cold air, or you will have the risk of getting poisoned by CO
and/or CO2.
I had a power outage recently for 11 hours, my house temperature only

because of them. Yet I am still waiting to hear one news about a person
being electrocuted to big injury or death.
It happened to me a lot of times when there was a dead pilot fire.
Right, when you have a leak, you know how dangerous it can be without me to
mention that.
No, I am not. Actually for well insulated modern house, this should be a
more and more important concern.

we lost electricity a lot during winter storm. That is why I installed a
back up generator for my house. It is happening quite frequent.

Lucky you.

pipes
Depending on your outdoor temp, this could be possible. But if your outside
is above -20 F. A Peninsula or see through gas fireplace in the middle of
basement and goes all the way through your 2nd story roof, should keep the
house warm enough to prevent the pipes from freezing. Acutally if your house
is well insulated, it should keep it around 70 F. After you let the fire
place burn a few hours, you can feel the walls surround the chimney all
begin to radiate heat.
