1910年，物理学家Jeans，James（1877-1946）跟Veblen
讨论princeton大学物理系的课程设置问题，Jeans认为群
论课应该被撤消，因为他实在看不出群论和物理有什么关系
现在已经不知道Veblen的回答了，不过群论课还是被保留下
来，没有过几年，量子力学的发展使群论成了物理中不可缺
少的工具
有一次，columbia大学开了一个“代数拓扑及其在物理中的
应用”的讲座，据说李政道听完讲座后说他不相信代数拓扑
在物理中会有用，如果真有用的话，每个理论物理学家都会
花两个月的时间去学代数拓扑
