how is going with his ck preparation. He told me his current priority is
working on applying for Green Card.
I felt a little bit surprised by his answer because he told me that he would
complete CK as soon as possible a couple of months ago. At that time, he
said on year 2013, he will graduate 10 years. He does know it is better to
participate Match before 10 year graduation. But, now, he changes his mind
and put "Green card" as his priority.
From this example, I have the questions.
USMLE and Green Card, which one should go first?
How long do you get your green card?
My visa journey is " J1--2 years. ( 2000-2002) H1--8 years ( 2002-2010),
Green card is in EB2 category, priority date: Oct, 18, 2005, I485 approved
on July, 2010. "
I took 5 year to get the green card.
I think is is necessary to discuss the questions here because different
people does has different view on the same issue. Welcome your comment.
Obviously, those who come into US by marriage nerve has these questions.
Those who get Match with J1 or H visa absolutely don't have these questions.
But, how about those in middle?

green card. For your friend, I think green card carries more weight than the
difference between 11-12 years vs. 9 years after graduation. But if
somebody is young, single, and within 5 years of graduation, he/she should
definitely do USMLE first. It is hard for him/her to get GC through EB
anyway. |

每个申请都会有些“硬伤”， 就算天衣无缝， 至少你还不是人家自己系统培养出来的
吧。
“硬伤”太多了，量变成质变， 可能会导致zero IV。 这时， 绿卡也救不了你。有绿卡， 只有0-1 IV 的有的是。 |

for you. But if you don't have it, it will
likely haunt you somehow.
If nobody else in your family to take care of GC, and you can get it in a
reasonable amount of time, It may be
worth your while to go for GC first.

study is applied to either scenario.
And I used the worst case scenario of the J-1 visa. For H-1ers, you get to play doctors 2 yrs sooner. The point is even if you have to serve your home country for 2 yrs, you still come out ahead.

To further this discussion, let me give you a couple of true stories. From
your own view, you can give your own answer on the question ---who is the
happiest among A.B.C.?
A. B. C. are outstanding men. I am very proud of them. It is my honor to be
their friend.
A. ----got MD. in 1995.
1995-1997, IM physician in a Hospital.
1997- 2002, studied for M.S. plus Ph.D.
2002-----came into US as Postdoc with H1-B1 visa
2005----- Matched IM with J1.
2008-----Matched Cardio fellowship with J1
2010------start to look for the Job after the fellowship training.
He would
like the potential employer can support his green
card
application and hope the working place is located
in a good
academical environment for his two little kids.
B.------got MD. in 1993.
1993--1998----- Studied for M.S. and Ph.D.
1998-----Came into US. as a postdoc with J1 visa.
2005---- Match IM in one of top programs with Green Card.
2008-----Matched Cardio-fellowship.
2010-----Spend Christmas vocation on cruise trip to Caribbean.
Don't worry about relocating his family because of
green
card issue.
C.----- Got MD. in 1992.
1992----1995-----Studied for M.S.
1995----1997-----Worked in a hospital as a IM physician
1997--- 2001----- Studied for Ph.D.
2001---2002----- Worked in a hospital as a IMphysician
