I am writing to bring your attention to a blatant racial discrimination
incident on UCSD campus. Dr. Clifford P. Kubiak, a faculty member in the
Dept. of Chemistry, UCSD uses "Don't believe anything the Chinaman says." as
one of the lab rules, which are published on the lab's official website.
Please see the web link http://kubiak.ucsd.edu/labrules.php. and the snapshot of the website in the attachment. The fact that this happens in a public funded lab in a famous public university is appalling.
As we all know, using the C word on Chinese is as offensive as using the N
word on African Americans or using the K word for Jewish people. As a
Chinese, I feel deeply offended.
Given that Alexandra Wallace, another UCLA student's racial discriminatory
Youtube clip incident just happened not long ago, the fact is becoming
clearer that racial bias and discrimination is a wide spread problem on UC
campuses. I believe there are numerous Federal, California laws and even UC
policies against this kind of racial discriminatory acts. The UC system
obviously bears the responsibility for not doing enough to educate its
faculty, staff or students on racial discrimination issues .
I am very disappointed at UC system for failing to prevent such incidents
from happening. I demand UCSD take action immediately against this unlawful
racial discrimination act on your campus.
