SEPANG: Rolls-Royce and Boeing have denied receiving any flight-time
diagnostic data from the missing B777-200 after it was last tracked by civil
aviation radar.
Acting Transport minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the aircraft
manufacturer and its engine maker did not receive any information from the
missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft at any time beyond 1:07 am on Saturday.
The aircraft was reported in the foreign media to have transmitted to data
some four hours after it vanished from commercial radar of the two countries.
Hishammuddin also confirmed that the purported sightings of large objects
floating in the South China Sea earlier this morning did not belong to the
plane.
International media outlets had widely circulated images said to be provided
by a Chinese military agency earlier this morning but an aerial search
party deployed to its coordinates found nothing.
Hishammuddin, who is also Defence minister, also said his Chinese
counterparts had confirmed the image had been uploaded by mistake and did
not show any debris belonging to an aircraft.
