Lu Ho-Shen was born in 1917 in the U.S. state of Indiana and returned to
China with his parents when he was a child. In 1936 Lu, along with his
brother Hoff Lu, enrolled at the University of Minnesota. He received his
bachelor’s degree in 1939 and a master of science in 1941 in aeronautical
engineering.
From 1941 to 1943, Lu worked as an engineer at Curtiss Airplane Company in
Buffalo, New York. For the next 19 years Lu worked as a senior engineer for
Republic Aviation in Long Island, New York.
From 1964-1987, he was the director at Gumman Corporation before retiring in
1987. Lu made significant contributions to the development of aeronautical
technology and conducted the initial design of F14 Tomcat, a supersonic
fighter aircraft developed for the U.S. Navy. He played important roles in
the design of many other designs including the P40, P47, F84, F84P, F103,
F105, F111B, and Rainbow passenger aircraft. |
