W********s 发帖数: 2256 | 1 UPDATE: The Major Applewhite-to-Florida rumor is losing ground quickly.
Monday night the Gainesville Sun
backed off its initial report that the Texas assistant was likely to follow
Will Muschamp to become the Gators'
next offensive coordinator.
The paper said a source confirmed that Applewhite would probably stay on in
Austin, where he has a good
shot of replacing departed OC Greg Davis.
...
As Austin American-Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls admits, this could change
by the time you're reading this
sentence but he doesn't believe Texas running backs coach Major Applewhite
will take the Florida offensive
coordinator job as has been rumored.
Bohls writes that Mack Brown made a mistake by letting defensive coordinator
Will Muschamp get lured away
by the Gators, and that Brown won't let that happen with Applewhite, who is
in line to take over the Longhorns'
OC job for the departed Greg Davis.
Bohls speculates that the fact that Muschamp now being out of the way as the
head-coach-in waiting will
make Applewhite want to stay for a possible future as Brown's successor, and
the fact that if Applewhite, the
former UT quarterback, jumps ship, then fans in Austin would have a hard
time welcoming him back down the
road.
On thoughts of Randy Shannon becoming Brown's new defensive coordinator,
Bohls thinks it's a "long shot." |
