THE BUS
Two small-town gay teen-age boys become embroiled in a tussle between a
church and a gas station in THE BUS, a new play directed by NYU Theater
faculty John Simpkins and starring NYU grad Will Roland.
Following its October Off Broadway premiere at 59E59 Theaters, The Bus will
travel to Topeka, Kansas, to play near the anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church.
The Bus is a play about gay teens, a small town, and a big church. It’s the
story of Jordan and Ian, two boys who regularly rendezvous in a parked bus
that belongs to the most powerful church in town, Golden Rule. Late at night
, the boys meet to explore *ual feelings that are at once awkward, humorous,
and kept from the light of day. When their secret meeting place is in
danger of being discovered, the boys find themselves caught in a confl
ict between Golden Rule and a gas station owned by Ian’s father — and the
clash i*plosive. Can Jordan and Ian move their fragile relationship into the
light, or will church and family drive them back? A touching tale that
swirls with suspense, The Bus is a play you will not want to miss.
