KnowAScene Browser＋Navigator
Point to discovery, click to navigate, KnowAScene Browser+Navigator lets you
explore and navigate through
world in a different way - by overlaying rich information on top of the
video live feed displayed on your cell
phone's screen. The live feed is captured by mobile phone's camera and piped
to the screen in realtime,
which makes it look exactly like a camera's view-finder - the view changes
as the camera turns around.
In the browsing mode it augments the live feed by overlaying marker on top
of the object (or point of
interests) inside of this view-finder like interface, which is usually
termed AR view or camera view. Using
realtime processing algorithm the markers' screen positions are calculated
and updated all the time so that
they appear to be glued to the corresponding POIs they're related to. User
can also interact with markers by
touching marker on the screen to see more details of a POI, or simply double
tap the theme icons located
along the right border of screen to see POI details in a list view.
There're two navigation modes - walking and driving mode, in both cases the
routing direction is overlaid
as a yellow road path with an arrow end on top of the real road in the live
feed to provide intuitive
navigation experience. In addition, user will hear turn-by-turn voice
instructions in English or Chinese a
few hundred meters before the turning point.
Here are a brief summary of its features and how to use them:
1. Keyword based POI searching, keyword can be keyboard or voice input,
select the "Local Search " menu
to start the search. The search results are added as new themes and set as
active, a corresponding icon
representing the new theme will be inserted into the AR (camera) view. At
any time, there can be only two
active themes (and so theme icons) on the desktop, the other themes will be
pushed out of by newly added
themes. But user can easily sliding the finger near the theme icon area to
move themes in and out of the
desktop, or simply press down and drag to rearrange the order of the themes
icons. At any time only the
AR markers belong to the active theme will be visible, this avoids
cluttering up the screen (with too many
POIs)
2. Shake to save your current location into "My Places" theme, then later
locate the saved location in AR
(camera) view or list view.
3. One click routing, from within AR (camera) or list view, click the "Route
" button of a POI, then start to be
guided to the point by the direction path overlaid in the AR view. Working
together with the Shake to save
feature, this provides convenient and intuitive navigation help to users who
are reluctant to interpret map
or lost orientation while traveling in a foreign country.
4. This application has a database of fifty thousand tourism attractions in
china, e.g. the Shanghai world
expo sites, the Beijing olympic stadium, the forbidden city, etc. and it's
expanding. Tourists visiting China
will feel at home using the combination of the above features and not
worried about getting lost any more.
5. The augmented reality gps navigation feature is provided as a demo for
anywhere in the world. Aside
from one click routing, user can also access this feature by selecting the "
direction" sub-menu, then enter
the destination address in the dialog box that is brought up, make sure you
chose the walking or driving
mode correctly, since they can't be used in the wrong situation. If you are
using it in car, please make sure
you chose the driving mode. If the address is valid, the route from the
current location to the destination
address will be calculated and software enters Augmented Reality GPS
navigation mode. If you missed a
turn, a off the route popup will be displyed and simply reenter the
destination address to restart the
navigation.
To exit navigation mode, just drag the route details panel on the top of
screen to the trash can menu (the
menu will show once pressing down the route details panel).
Because the yellow AR path is aligned with the road, the best way to use
this feature in car is to mount the
cell phone on wind-shield firmly, with the camera facing the road in the
front, so that the AR (camera) view
have the best coverage of the road.
Beware that this is a demo feature, the route maybe inaccurate, and the AR
direction may deviate from the
road due to route accuracy, terrain variation or bumpy and jammed road. It
usually performs best on
highway and flat terrain.
Developer provides this feature free for demo only, not responsible for any
consequences resulted from
using this feature.
AR gps nivagation don't rely on downloading large amount of raster map data,
so only cause minimum data
usage, it is suitable to be used when only GPRS or limited data plan is
available, e.g. roaming in a foreign
country or on a prepaid sim card. The software is optimized on power
consumption so it can run longer in
navigation or browsing mode than other AR applications.
Ps. This is not a quasi-AR application, so if you notice that the marker
doesn't align with object, then it
means the phone need to be calibrated. Just slowly wave 8 in the air for a
couple of times with your phone,
and it will align well again. | h******n
