Compilers don’t warn Jeff Dean. Jeff Dean warns compilers.
Jeff Dean writes directly in binary. He then writes the source code as
documentation for other developers.
When Jeff Dean has an ergonomic evaluation, it is for the protection of his
keyboard.
Jeff Dean was forced to invent asynchronous APIs one day when he optimized a
function so that it returned before it was invoked.”

Jeff Dean didn't create map/reduce when he worked for DEC labs. My guess
Google founders set the direction (they already use multiple machines at
stanford), he just followed what his boss suggested. It is quite natural
process to make map reduce a generic software.
the indian guy who pairs with him is much less famous. The indian guy also
written GFS, from a pure coder's perspective, the indian guy is stronger.
But .... I guess jeff dean has people skills.

ok. I thought Larry and Sergey wrote the first version of GFS.

you are right when i did some check! I haven't read GFS all that much
details. The indian guy did a lot implementation and enhancements and
published some of early papers on GFS. My guess is GFS/MapReduce/Bigt are
all natural fruits of Google founders' vision.
Dean and indian guy are just great followers and implementors.
