The original article only explains that Programming Gurus (those who have
amassed internal arcane knowledge of a system) exist because the Programming
Systems have too much intricacies that only the system's original
implementers (the Architects) could know how to use them correctly.
As we progress toward Programming Systems that are more reasonable and
understandable by mere humans, the need for consulting Programming Gurus
will diminish.
This does not mean that the average programmer will be jobless. It means the
average programmer will be able to do the job while consulting the Gurus
less frequently.
Neither does this imply that the Gurus will become jobless. Instead, the
Gurus will go back to their original job - the Architects of new systems,
now designed with a focus on reasonability and understandability.
