Job Description: Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is a
world leader in pharmaceutical research with a widely recognized culture for
nurturing innovation and scientific excellence.
China NIBR based in Shanghai is dedicated to the research and development of
products addressing diseases prevalent to China, and providing innovation
in the understanding and curing of Epigenetic causes of diseases.
The main responsibility of this position is to work very closely with
research scientists, Informaticians and IT professionals to support the
informatics needs, maintain the daily operation of scientific applications,
coordinate internal and external scientific training, openly share
information and expertise, and maintain a professional network across the
global NIBR organization to provide consultancy and deliver sustainable
computational solutions to routine or ad hoc requests in a timely manner.
The selected candidate will, as determined by the specific problem, either
work independently with the research scientists, or work as a member of a
local or global team to deliver the appropriate solution.
Furthermore, the selected candidate will be recognized as a resource in the
Novartis scientific community for knowledge of existing and emerging
informatics technologies from across academics communities and commercial
enterprises.
Minimum requirements Minimum requirements:
• M.S. in Bioinformatics/Cheminformatics, or Computer Science related
discipline with strong knowledge in Biology/Chemistry,
• 3+ years of work experience, preferred in a pharmaceuticals or
biotechnology company (or B.S. with 5+ years work experience).
• Excellent communication, quick learner with strong problem solving
skills.
• Demonstrated success working in global teams.
• Demonstrated success as a service provider.
• Can work under pressure and be willing to meet challenges
• Strong skills in Perl or Python, Shell scripts, Java, Visual Studio,
ASP.NET, C#
• Strong knowledge in Web, Database and Network technologies
• Working knowledge of a broad range of biological and chemical
databases.
• Working knowledge of various bioinformatics or cheminformatics tools
(e.g., Spotfire, Pipeline pilot, Vector NTI, Pathway Studio, etc)
• Fluent in English and Mandarin
The ideal candidate will also have:
• Hands-on experience solving various scientific application issues (
installation, maintenance, license, storage, backup, etc)
• Working experience with a broad range of laboratory techniques.
• Working experience in multinational companies |
