Very subtle from many perspective and all of them may just take ADBE out.

Photoshop (CS)/ Acrobat family contribute 70% of its stock price. Other 30%
come from LiveCycle/Omniture/Rich Internet/Publishing/Mobile Flash. It is
basically a desktop software company.
Who needs a desktop software company right now?
Google/Apple/Microsoft are focusing on mobile platform/cloud computing right
now. Only small companies/startups in this area would be their potential
take-over targets. |

ADBE and MSFT as more kind of a cooperation than a direct competition.
The ONLY major enemy for ADBE right now is AAPL, since AAPL basically
excludes flash and flash application to be deployed or rendered on iPhone
platform.
Since GOOG and AAPL are at odds and rest of the world are still using flash
on Windows and Android platforms, I'd say ADBE and flash would survive, at
least for now.

Plus, for software, once you are biggest enough, you always get by.
The days of total commoditized software is not that yet. For the dumbest
adobe software ColdFushion even surviving (many people still use it happily).

It will be a very interesting thing to observe ADBE and observe the
industry.
I don't support ADBE, I support good technology (or judgement).
like, I don't like AAPL, but I do like the product and I will buy iPad once
3G is out.
For PALM, I shared your view when it was low,I felt there could be a play.
However, I don't do stuff that I can not read data easily and I don't play
high debt stuff..

focus shifts to enterprise software like document management (LiveCycle
acrobat), business process management, vedio conference product and of
course, the Omniture (google analytical competition product). More
importantly the flash/flex platform for eRIA application development build

The problem w/ flash and this HTML5 hype is: neither was designed from
ground up as an APP framework. Flash started out as a video player. HTML
was a bunch half-butted documentation tags. Their legacy prevents either
from becoming an all capable web 2.0 era platform. MSFT starts fresh on
SilverLight so they get it right fundamentally.
That is not to say Flash or HTML5 will just lay down and let SilverLight
run them over. Flash is after all installed on 99% of PCs, and HTML5 has

MSFT is notoriously piggy tho. If I had to buy some long term blue chips,
I go w/ XOM and CVX kinda. Investing in tangible stuff sounds better for
this decade.

can easily put up a demo much prettier than this one. You can find a pretty
site and see what was making it and then do a statistic analysis on it.
having said that, the good side of silverlight is the good validation.
