you can benefit for the long-term gain tax as 15% only.
But before that, the price might fluctuate, he would
like to short it to protect the gain.
It's kind of make sense at some point, but may need
to have 2 broker accounts.

are still student.
If you sell after Apr.25 in my example, the tax rate drops to 15%. That's at
least 10% difference in your profit.

发帖数: 1170 | 16 The point is you are going to SELL. You already made the decision but it is
only a few days from lower tax. What are you going to do?
1. Sell stocks immediately.
2. Buy puts
3. Write deep ITM calls
4. Short equivalent stocks at another broker
Yes, further gains are limited, especially in 1,3,4.
I consider 3 is the best, when available. Not all stocks have options though.
Anyway 4 would be uniformly better than 1.

发帖数: 3732 | 19 这种操作有个术语，叫box,可以这样讲，box是broker非常忌讳的。
什么叫box，也就是你陷入了一个loop----死循环。
当你打算抛出股票的时候，你必须先把short的那个抛出了才能sell the long。总之，
是只要你想抛，你折腾半天会发现自己还是赔的那个，那就等于白折腾了。
