We are now in the oil contango where oil in the future is more expensive
than current spot price. USO always owns front month future and every month
it has to sell the current month and buy next month. With contango, it
always sells for less and buys for more. After 6- 7 month, the decay is huge
.
Look at USO price when oil was at 35 back in 2008-09, it was actually much
higher than now. And we had some good backwardation during the past 6 years.
