If file jointly, we are not qualified for the $1000 child tax credit; if
separately, one person is qualified. Is filing separately better? can one
person use standard deduction and the other one use itemized deduction to
claim for the mortgage interest payment and property tax payment?
thanks |

joint income 14K+, child tax credit = 1000 - (14K-11K)*0.05 = -500 = 0
if separately, one person's income 55K, child tax credit = 1000 - (55K-55K)*
0.05 = 1000
is this correct? |

some of the child tax credit.
The high income person may hit AMT if MFS.
For deductions, both should do the same.
MFS to be better or not, you need figure out by yourself. |
