not my play.
1/2NL, new guy (sit down with $300 max) against chip leader ($1200).
a few hands later, new guy looks like normal image, chip leader is
aggressive, not loose or tight.
new guy bets $20 preflop in EP, limpers all gone, chip leader calls.
flop comes as scary 9s7s3s. new guy bets $50, chip leader smooth calls.
turn is a blank, low diamond. new guy follows up with $50, chip leader
thinks for a while and suddenly jumps out $50+$250 to push new guy all-in.
tough time for new guy who just

I would check the flop with his cards. Also, the preflop raise is just way
too big.

good players can actually play any two cards here if he thinks he can
bluff you out in this flushed flop. The preflop raiser is unlikely to
hit a flush here. Over pairs are not much a hand against tough players.

cold calling a strong EP preflop raise --> 22-TT,AK, maybe some suited
connectors,slowplayed AA.
the flop bet is again very strong, without a very strong draw or a made hand
I don't see him calling. If he's calling preflop with suited connectors and
made flush on the flop, most likely he'll raise because he need to charge
high spade card for drawing. So I think an overpair or a set is large
portion of his range.
He could be bluffing with nothing but since the EP guy is unknown so it's
less like

he doesn't really need to raise the flop bet here, the pot is big enough,
a cold call would usually stack the preflop raiser on the river as well.

in my mind raise is for protection for a made flush.

Well, that raise could scare the preflop raiser away with
less hands like overpairs, which you actually don't like to see.
Suppose you call, he may charge again with AA or KK but no spades.
Then on the river, you may raise him and get him quite pot committed.
That's why you don't want to raise here. If his stack is deeper,
you need raise then.

i'd rather raise on the flop with a made flush because lots of cards will
kill the action on the turn or river.

The point is that if you call, you may win another bet on the turn here.
If you raise, you will be very unlikely to win that big bet on turn
even if your opp calls with over pairs. I am not saying you should never
raise, but I'd just call about 80-90 % of times and raise the rest.
If opp has $400 or more, I would certainly raise, cause that's the only way
to stack him. For a 300 stack, it may just go like:
raise 20, call 20,
bet 30, call 30,
bet 60, raise 140, tank(either fold or call, if he cal

Suit connectors slow play, semi-bluff with As kQJ etc.
High pairs is also possible.
I wonder does any feel the same way, same bet is a tell of weakness
most time.

ofcs i would not give out free cards,
i will raise 90% with made-flush.
it also defines your card.
if you just call, 1/2 chance of hitting the higher flush draw will let you f
eel painful.
but as said, no right or wrong in poker play as long as you play it your way.

that's not a free card, he has paid. Also, the major point here is not
how to win down this pot, but how to squeeze one more bet. The pot is
still rather small comparing with your stack.

I feel sorry for the new guy. The only thing he did correctly is the fold,
which saved him 180 chips. But the way he played, even that is doomed, too.

I will give the chipleader credit for a better hand. If he show his bluff,
I’d better find another table asap.
