两个岛的蓝宝书很有帮助。I would recommend the places I went to with the
exception of pcc, which I highly NOT recommend.
took toddler to all places except diamond head.
Night 1: flight from LAX to Kona. arrive around 8:30pm; Kona coast resort,
very big 2-bedroom condo, good price, nice front desk, mosquito bites are a
concern since it’s a condo，thus more open to outside than a hotel.
Day 1: morning, shopping at nearby kta market, place of refuge; afternoon:
captain cook bay snorkeling, we used fair wind ship, very nice, crew fished
beautiful fishes, many dolphins swam with the ship. the snorkeling
equipment was not good, bring your own if you want. our toddler was throwing
up on the boat, we prepared the wrist band for kid neasea, but forgot to
bring to the boat, not sure if it could have helped.
Night 2: stay at kona coast resort
Day 2: punalu’lu black sand beach; Volcano NP crater rim drive; hilo farmer
’s market
Night 3: Inn at the Kulaniapia falls; beautiful surroundings, we stayed at
the Pagoda guesthouse. it’s quite pricy, beautiful views, nice breakfast,
the room and bed are not comfy, i guess you need to be a somewhat outdoor
person for this place.
Day 3: the 4-mile scenic drive past the 7 mile marker, Hawaii tropical
botanical garden; what’s shaking smoothies（yummy!!!); Alaska falls state
park; Waipio valley look out (didn’t go down, good enough for us); took
highway 19(instead of Mamalahoe HWY) to go back to Kona
Night 4: stay at kona coast resort
Day 4: morning, greenwell coffee farm, they have a coffee making tour, very
nice; relax and swim in resort pool in afternoon
Night 5: stay at kona coast resort
Day 5: flight from big island to Oahu at noon time with go! airline, the
carry-on requirement is very strict. they have a size requirement on carry-
on luggages; we had to check in 2 carry-on luggages which didn’t fit their
strict requirement. From oahu airport, drive to tantalus drive round top
drive, there is a state park on the round top drive which has look out with
magnificent views; check in at hotel, walked around waikiki area and beach;
Night 6: stayed at coconut waikiki, good service, small room, good price,
the traffic on the street by the canal was not noisy to me (I am sensitive
to noise)
Day 6: Diamond head hiking (2 mile round trip), steep stairs, so our toddler
kid stayed with grandma at the hotel.
Pearl harbor in the afternoon; didn’t make reservation to the memorial, not
many people that day, no lines to ticketing. also went to the submarine and
the aviation museum. I bought an entertainment digital coupon ($20) which
had coupon for the latter 2 places.
KaiLua Beach(白沙）
Night 7: stayed at coconut Waikiki
Day 7: Morning, Hanauma Bay (arrive before 9am, closed Tuesday), snorkeling
(rent at snorkeling bob), Halona blowhole.
Afternoon: stopped by shrimp shack on the way to PCC, 非常一般的虾。PCC (
used entertainment digital coupon), highly NOT recommend this place, very
artificial, many tour buses with japanese teenagers. evening show is long
and end after 9:15pm, and this place is 1 hour drive from waikiki, which I
didn’t know before I booked the event, very tiring for young kids. We went
to the “free” island buffet, both our kids were sick the next day! one
with diarrhea, the one throw up several times!
Night 8: stayed at coconut waikiki
Day 8: last day, went to Iolani palace (M-Sat), my son was throwing up in
front of the palace (from the buffet at pcc the night before)
The palace is small and worth going to if you are the kind of person who
wants to know some history about places.
Flight back to LAX from oahu in the afternoon. |
