Proposition 30 and the Great California Exodus
November 07, 2012 01:35 PM EST
Proposition 30 passed in California Tuesday, increasing both income and
sales taxes under the guise of funding education. Even Governor Brown
himself, who begged Californians to pass the tax increase, seemed surprised
he was able to pass it. "I know a lot of people had some doubts, had some
questions, can we really go to the people and ask them for a tax?" The truth
is that by referring to Prop 30 as a "millionaire tax" and pretending like
it would save education, Brown sanitized the initiative to sell it to the
people.
California democrats cannot imagine making any cuts to government budgets;
instead they think simply raising taxes will pay for their insane spending
habits. In September, Governor Brown said, "Maybe I know too much about this
stuff, but we're in a recovery, a slow recovery, and it'll keep recovering
with any luck." Brown really doesn't have any inkling on how to solve
California's budget crisis. And without politicians being willing to take
seriously the relationship between debt and spending, the problem will only
get worse.
The only solution to the debt crisis the Democrats have come up with is to
increase the tax burden on the people. As Steven Greenhut of The Orange
County Register put it, "Businesses and individuals get tired of being
viewed mainly as an ATM machine for government." The net result of policies
such as Proposition 30 is a poor business climate which incentives the state
's most productive individuals to leave. A Manhattan Institute Study called
"The Great California Exodus" found that 3.4 million people have left
California in the last 22 years. Perhaps the Democrats are deliberately
driving their opponents out of the state, but the debt crisis is not going
with them.

So all shareholders got $750M.
From next year, it will be 20% long term capital again, + 3.8% rich
punishment tax + 13.3% state tax, total will be: 36%, so all share holders
will get $640M.
It's over $110M difference. If instagram move Texas, he can save another $
133M state tax.
So, to a start up, if the final selling price is between $100M - $1B, the
saving of move to Texas will be $13.3M - $133M , well worth the moving.
Move early if your business does not depend on California. (Good thing my
business does not depend on CA).
