Trump State Park with "a more appropriate" title, citing the GOP
presidential contender's "increasingly hostile" rhetoric.
State Sen. Daniel Squadron (D) argued in a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo on
Monday that Trump's "discriminatory proposals are unbefitting of a campaign
for our country’s highest office"
Squadron said that "Trump has shown that he is unworthy of having a New York
State Park named in his honor" and called for any signage with the real
estate mogul's name to be removed from the 436-acre park.
Trump donated undeveloped land for the park in 2006. Amid budget constraints
in 2010, the outspoken billionaire floated pursuing legal options to regain
the land, according to a report in The New York Times.
The New York lawmaker's letter Monday was first reported by BuzzFeed.
Trump has sparked controversy over his criticism of illegal immigrants and
calls to bar Muslims from entering the United States. |
