The Vatican has responded to comments by Donald Trump criticizing Pope
Francis’ plan Wednesday to visit the United States-Mexico border.

The pontiff is scheduled to visit Ciudad Juárez, once dubbed the murder
capital of the world, which neighbors El Paso in Texas, where he is expected
to highlight the plight of migrants.
In an interview with Fox Business Network last week, Trump said he didn’t
think the pope “understands the danger of the open border we have with
Mexico.”

"And I think Mexico got him to do it because Mexico wants to keep the border
just the way it is because they’re making a fortune and we’re losing,”
Trump added.
The Vatican says Ciudad Juárez has represented the dream of crossing the
border to the United States for Mexicans and Central Americans for many
years.
In comments Tuesday night responding to Trump's remarks, Vatican spokesman
the Rev. Federico Lombardi said: “The pope always talks about migration
problems all around the world, of the duties we have to solve these problems
in a humane manner, of hosting those who come from other countries in
search of a life of dignity and peace.”
The pope, who ends his six-day visit to Mexico on Wednesday, plans to visit
a prison and hold a mass at the Ciudad Juárez fairgrounds with more than 1,
000 migrants, as well as victims of violence, before departing for Rome. | s*******1 发帖数: 16479 | |
