white men" built this country into the greatest economic power the world has
ever seen, a land of opportunity where millions have sought refuge for both
the freedom and the opportunity that it offers. "Angry" white men fought a
bloody civil war to stop the growth of slavery and open the nation's eyes to
a glaring blind spot. "Angry white men" then chose voluntarily to give the
vote to black men. "Angry white men" then chose voluntarily to give the vote
to women. "Angry white men" enacted the Civil Rights Law and the Voting
Rights Law. "Angry white men" enacted the laws to give preference to blacks
and other minorities in every venue of life, from college admissions to
hiring, job retention and promotion, entitlement programs, educational
programs, welfare programs, and on and on. Did it often take too long,
against too much resistance? Yes. But those "angry white men" lived in the
environments of their times, and had to overcome "the way things are." They
changed America for the better against the grain of history and accepted
culture and beliefs. Now those who have been the beneficiaries of all that
positive change want to tear it down because the "angry white men" didn't
act quickly or thoroughly enough to suit them. And the current environment
shows us vividly that if the shoe had been on the other foot, the "angry
black men" would never have done the same for white victims. | W***o
