with over 11500 entries. OSB was the first one with 15000+ entries.
Max and Julia beat Andrei/Elena again in Latin. Victor/Ann won Standard.
Smooth/Rythm is kind of boring. Top dancers like Toni/Ben Ermis/David Weiss
are all missing from the comp.
Highlight of the event - Pro Show, organized by Wendy Johnson
This year's Pro Show ( a mini-show similar to "Burn the Floor") is better

I counted the beats after u said so. You are right, it is 29 mpm, slightly
slower than the normal chacha music, not by much though. Also I believe
this is the true speed at the time.
Personally, I didn't felt any slowing down when I was watching the showcase.
I guess this is probably due to the difference between a live show and a
recorded one.

dance-wise:
i feel the robes are just too much. the robes and cape overwhelmed their
body movements, which makes the dance a bit 拖泥带水. The play with the cape
(which is too short horizontally) is not as good as the play of a long band
by max and yulia in their silver jumpsuit showcase. (don't be mistaken - i
like them a lot; this is just technical comments.)
costume-wise:

festival (2006?). His initial appearance in that black costume with purple
cape and with no show of his face (covered by hat?) somehow makes me feel he
is Darth Vador in "Star Wars"... sorry (for those who like that dance).

and i still remember i was very impressed when i watched it at OSB.
Probably the most impressive moment for me on that evening!
personally, i like this paso show dance. this dance is telling a story, and
the costumes definitely add to that. i agree with you there are certain
drawbacks in this costume, but again, i feel that if you could watch it live
, you might like it, :)

very good. it didn't change the tempo, but definitely reduce the richness
of the music.

watch on wednesday but somehow missed it on saturday evening too (from
another channel at 8pm). i sit in front of the tv from 7pm but followed
another show till 9pm. i was so pissed by myself...

don't think it is too much, instead, I think the costume makes a great
extention to their body movement... as to the log band by max&yulia, as much
as I like them, I almost can't remember what it looked like, but I remember
this one vividly.
However, I do feel this time their performance was not as passionate as last
time they did at OSB -- which was understandable anyway...

big skirt and a nice cape definitely add to the flavor of the dance as an
extension of body movement. I wore a red long skirt - which is actually a
flamenco skirt - for my paso showcase (see pic below - that is not me; i
bought the skirt). and i used the skirt quite a bit - flowing it, throwing
it, and turning with it - felt really good :)

But i saw the show dances from the 4 couples.
Tony Dovolani and Elena Grinenko's "Sexy back" is not so sexy - just my
personal opinion. But i like generally their interpretation of the rhythm. I
feel bad i cannot appreciate rhythm dances...
Ben Ermis and Shalene Archer-Ermis' "fever" is too slow-paced. I cannot feel
the fever :) I believe their smooth is excellent but didn't see it.

background; Max is 101; Andre is 145. This is at Manhattan Dancesport
Championship 2007. It was far away from me; when i heard laughters, i zoomed
in my camera and caught the fun moment!

don't know much about andrei and katarina, but they have had a very stable
partnership, and she's about 35 years old. it just looks like flat
