标 题: 不同行业的career path求指导

最近有两个面试，结果目前看还都挺promising, 行业不一样，一个是retailer, 一个
是financial services, 做的有点像，都是customer profiling和offer targeting。
想请教这两个行业以后的career path和职业发展是怎么样的，哪个行业会更好些，更
有前途。有点打算工作段时间去读个mba, 然后找机会回国自己干。多谢大牛们指点。 |

发帖数: 678 | 2 几天前学校举办了Career Fair。基本上大多数公司都来了。无论大公司，小公司，基
本上遇到的国人都非常的热情，解答各种疑问。
在Amazon的展台前遇到一个女阿三，我本来是对阿三没有偏见的，之前在实习公司里面
遇到的阿三至少表面上还是友好的。
这个女阿三和排在我前面的一个印度学生交谈时非常耐心并且保持微笑。轮到我的时候，
简历拿过去，基本没怎么看，问我啥时候毕业，（一般的recruiter这时都会自己在简
历上面写下毕业时间）。这个女阿三写都懒的写，直接把简历递回来，让我自己写。我
写好后，再给我两张纸条，说去网上申请吧。整个过程及其不耐烦。
遇到女阿三的经历顿时让我感受到了国人大哥大姐的热情啊。
所以大家以后career fair还是多找国人或者白人，还是不要找阿三。

度同学就在career fair当场拿到了offer，心想这家伙挺厉害的嘛，平时看不出来，后
来得知这家公司叫NationWide。。。。
：再过几天就是学校的Career Fair了。之前都是好不容易排队排到了，聊几句
recruiter就说回去等消息，然后收下简历，再然后就byebye了…
：所以想问问各位前辈，如何准备才行？写cover letter，拿上recommendation
letter |

你想干什么能够被限制的只是你自己的行动能力。
没有行动能力就不要好高骛远。
从你的叙述来看毕业时候就没认真找工作，只是找个“容易”得薄厚来混着。这怪不得
别人。容易做的事情总不能指望高回报。
想开了，绝大部分人都这样的能力也这样的混着。和你的区别就是，很多人混得也有滋
有味的，不轻易抱怨现在拥有的。

人生一直处于没有计划中，化学博士毕业后，虽然知道自己对科研没兴趣但因为不知道
自己要做什么，于是就先做了博后（博后好找），博后期间真心明白自己不是学术圈的
料，不喜欢一个人闷头做实验，还是喜欢social一点的，周末也从不去lab（好不容易
放风去lab才怪）。我想自己不可能走发考题的路了。幸运的是博后期间自己把绿卡申
请下来了，不过自己对未来career一片茫然。

从火坑专业转行成计算机，做了几年自动化测试，既做前端，也做后端，感到有些累了
，如果继续做自动化测试，应该怎么提高自己？如果想试试其他方向，比方转成Data
Scientist 或其他方向，请问应该怎样入行？英语水平一般，所以估计Product
Manager之类方向比较困难

续自己的career。看看自己的简历，工作都是半年，几个月就走掉的，都是为了follow
老公。老公phd读了很长时间，有薄厚，现在又是临时工作，几年来转战不同地方，为
了娃有父母双在的日子，为了他的身体，我总是抛下自己钱不多的工作支持他。现在他
的career已经建立起来，可是我呢？现在找个工作，又是半年走掉，我估计都没有

大家好，在这里有问题请教大家：
我目前在一个机构做PhD，和学校不同，这里多数是头发花白的年长人员。我面临毕业
，可是之前做的项目很悲剧地被砍掉了，没有钱支撑下去。之前希望在这个项目上展开
的career就此泡汤。
现在我的老板说，可以给我一年postdoc我再继续做做，之后就没钱了，我好自为之。
我听了既高兴又担心，做了一年以后，又得到处寻找，是不是有点太麻烦了？再重新做
东西是不是又会浪费时间？
所以就准备稍微转行下，找到了和我现在专业相关的领域，申请各个学校和机构的
Postdoc。多数都回复我说没有钱或者不招人之类，但有一所机构对我感兴趣，在让我
做了报告，发了推荐信，成绩单之类的之后，和我联系的老板（一个中国人）告诉我说

咨询公司需要一定的经管知识，压力大出差多钱多
基金券商需要金融证券知识，钱多压力大
这些都是各有利弊
从职业发展的角度说，工科PhD在这些公司发展，跟经管专业或金融证券专业的人相比
，会有优势吗？机会成本是否过高？
如果留在industry，很多PhD都做R&D，这样的career path又是怎样？如何切入到管理？

俺是一名硅工，真正的硅工，就是那种每天穿得像太空人一样，进cleanroom，process
wafer的那种。现在渐渐上了些年纪了，看着公司里的50几岁的同事们还和我们一样每
天在cleanroom里面下苦力，心里无限凄凉，生怕自己将来也跟他们一样。我倒不是怕
苦怕累，只是每天这样干还要提心吊胆公司裁人，一旦失业，连个下家都难找，薪水待
遇就不用说了，每次看到版上那些fresh ms报的offer都眼馋得我直流口水，俺好歹也
是一名屁挨着地啊。
衷心请教版上的前辈们，像我这种情况应该怎样规划自己将来的career path？继续在
这一行做下去？还是换行业？如果换的话，应该往哪些方面转？谢谢！ |

已过而立之年，2个娃，一个3岁一个刚满月，老婆全职在家。自己ee和cs两个master；
毕业到现在6年一直在做软工，从firmware到kernel到app都做过，兴趣主要在app以下
level。原来一直觉得做个sr.developer做的开心就满足了，现在一下4口人要养，感觉
工资上升的空间不大了（现在base 140k），压力突然很大啊，！所以最近开始认真
career path。大致觉得这两个方向比较靠谱：
sr. developer -> technical lead -> enterprise architect
sr.developer - analyst/developer -> project manager
我一直梦想自己有一天可以做startup，但是现在时机还不成熟，所以也想通过更多的
career training完善自己，为将来startup做准备。大家觉得我从现在sr.developer跨
到下面一级需要做哪些准备呢？公司内部直接升容易还是跳槽更容易升？

帮LD求建议，他做了十几年网路芯片solution相关的，类似technical marketing，因
为产品的面比较窄，加上时间做的比较久，所以位置还比较稳定，待遇也还可以，但感
觉产品没前途而且语言也有劣势，去年就跳到了一家做网络产品SDN的startup公司，开
始写网络方面的代码（以前写芯片的firmware和API较多，没有什么其他上层代码的经
验，主要是系统经验），在新公司写代码比较累已经一年多了，也不知道代码能写到什
么水品。但是现在LD原来公司组里又想找他回去，因为相关的人比较难找，所以待遇当
然比startup好，但是LD很犹豫，不知道该留在现在这个公司转码工前途好一点，还是
又回去做以前熟悉的东西，感觉就是没前途，以后跳槽比较窄，好处是待遇好，工作轻

各位大虾帮忙指点一下，现在很迷茫ing...
我刚毕业，暑假实习纽约一小公司做的Quant Developer，Play with Black-litterman
and C++.. 编程背景很弱，都是这一年的多突击学习的，没有什么实际的prgramming
project经验。暑假实习到后面做的很痛苦，看到程序就本能的反感。
我原来是学自然科学的，跟Quant相差甚远，所有的一切都是这一年半积累的，学的很
辛苦但是很充实，我确认这些是自己感兴趣的但是又不确定怎样选择自己的career
path. 面过几个quantitative analyst 职位最终都被据了，受挫的同时在怀疑自己到
底适不适合做Quant. 我,girl,喜欢challenging的东东，喜欢绞尽脑汁的工作，活泼开

is
in private accounting and the other is in public accounting.
I do agree w/ crystal above that it depends on your ultimate goal. If
you
want a better work and life balance that pays not too bad, private
accounting is not such a bad deal. A lot of people go into corporate
accounting after spending a few years in public either at senior or
manager
level. People with public experience get a short cut and get better

发帖数: 509 | 44 With one year experience in industry, even with all parts of CPA test passed
, you have a very slim chance to be recruited as experience stuff at
accounting firms. Big 4 won't consider it, regional or smaller firm might,
but chance is slim. A friend of mine got it with a strong internal referral
but her work experience is state tax audit related under the circumstance
that back then all big 4 are in short of staff.

should be a public job fair.
FYI, Baruch will have a CPA Fair next Friday 9/8 and Career Fair at 9/28.
However, you will still need a school ID to get in.

BTW, I would love to help as many folks as possible. However, career
mentoring requires detail explanations and is too time consuming. This is

interest in this career.
Is that worthy to make a career change to actuarial science? I was educated
as an engineer, so took some Math courses in college.
