德国网站Heise Online证实(德语)IBM停止了Cell处理器的未来开发。 Cell处理器一
度被认为是一项革命性的产品,但实际应用证明它并不比竞争对手突出。IBM主管
DeepComputing的副总裁David Turek证实PoweXCell 8i是最后一款Cell处理器。当然停
止芯片设计并不意味着它的死亡,目前多数的Cell芯片主要由东芝公司生产,使用在索
尼公司的PS3主机上。Sun 曾经指出,3.2GHz的Cell处理器还没有1.4GHz的SUN Niagara
处理器快。有评论称,它并不比GPGPU强大,而灵活性又不如真正的CPU,IBM放弃它并
不让人意外。

this Nature paper (2002 417:39) addressed the mechanisms that
control fate of neural stem cells. astrocytes have been
thought merely as supportive cells in the central nervous
system, however, this work has demonstrated that astrocytes
isolated from adult hippocampus, but not spinal chord,
promoted neurogenesis (i.e., neuron fate) of the adult neural
stem cells in cell culture. this study has highlighted the
effects of the environment on the specification of stem cells.

Pluripotency and Totipoteny has similar meaning if not the same, i.e.
differentiation potential of all lineages but not SC of all different cell
types. But some ppl prefer to use Totipotency for ESC.
As I mentioned before, some of the adult stem cells are NOT true stem cells,
coz they only have limited self-renewal ability and differentiation potential.
So it's probably more approtiate to call them progenitor cells. Most time the
Sci would like to blow they find xxx type of stem cells, however,

Several different concepts are being discussed here:
1. The origin of tumor/cancer(single cell or multiple cells)
2. The existence of CSC. Even if the tumor origin is only one cell (
differentiated or tissue-specific stem cell), the whole tumor is
phenotypically heterogeneous, which has been proven by many many
experiments
. Then do all these cells have the same potential to initiate a new tumor?
Or to be more practical, do all these cells have the same potential to met
or relapse after chemo?

Good point.
My guess is that within a tumor or even cell line, there is always a
population of cells with better tumorigenesis potential / drug resistance.
Even if you get rid of those cells, other cells will replace.
Since cell lines are supposed to be genetically identical, epigenetics might
play a role here. It would be very interesting to identify the factors
involved in generating such population of cells.

I was asked a question whether it is meaningful to search the cancer origin
of lung cancer in kras model.
Actually, I found that I have no answer after taking more thought about it
and why I am doing it. So I open it for more discussion:
The promoter driving Kras is SP-C, active in both clara and type II cells.
I get myself into it because of Carla's finding on the stem cells. Since I
could not find the evidence to support stem cells, I then asked myself which

By ectopic expression of only 4 transcription factors, terminal
differentiated somatic cells can be transformed to be iPS cells. My question
is that if iPS cells or ES cells can be directly programmed to a specific
somatic cell fate by a pool of lineage specific transcription factors
without usually used stepwise protocols. If yes, could you please show me
some of the references? If not, what do you think might be the problem?

Is it safe to say ...
1) If Cell phone radiation is beyond a certain/unknown threshold, it
will
hurt users or cause cancer in a long-term usage model.
2) Mostly the current cell phone radiation may not be strong enough to
reach that threshold.
If this is the case, I guess it is about defining the threshold.

I guess you don't have much background of cell therapy. So far, only the
therapy with the Y-chain recovery in stem cell is oncogenic, and the main
reason is because strong signal of Y chain itself induces lymphoma instead
of the viral integration. For all the T cell or DC therapies which have been
in clinical for a long time, 0 case with lymphoma.

你说的比较温和是指什么?
来源于很多组织的人的fibroblast可以通过overexpress hTERT得到immortalization,
这是由于人的fibroblast在体外培养条件下的senescence多是由于端粒渐行缩短而导致
的(telomere-dependent replicative senescence)。与人的fibroblast不同,体外
培养中MEF的senescence并不是由于端粒缩短引起的,而是由于如前所述的过氧基团累积
oxidative stress induced DNA damage。研究表明senescence的MEF的端粒还很长,而
且MEF中有较高的mTERT表达,所以过表达mTERT并不能有效immortalize MEF。因为要抑
制p53和Rb通路,所以表达异源的SV40 T和HPV16 E6/E7都可以immortalize MEF。当然
这样得到的细胞株,由于这些病毒蛋白的过量表达,基因组并不稳定,长久培养会出现
嬗变。

大哥,我就是做免疫的。这些人(Dong Chen除外)都是做innate immunity的。做
innate immunity基本上都是用生化的方法研究signaling pathway, 主要的focus都是
在细胞水平,然后最后在knockout老鼠里面confirm一下。
您先看看Chen Zhijian, Shao Feng发过的免疫方面的CNS paper, 然后再看看曹雪涛的
这个Cell paper, 你会觉得没什么大的方向上的区别,都是用very biochemistry的方
法在解释免疫的问题。Shao Feng那篇关于NLRC4 inflammasome的文章水平很高,绝对
比Cao的这篇
Cell要重要。
经典免疫学往往是指做adaptive immunity的,一般做T B cell development,
activation, and function. 当然了,做innate immune cell function的,比如做
neutrophil function的也可以说是经典免疫学的。在这个意义上来讲,用生化方法做

其实Cell press和NPG 一样,好想是只要是投主刊或者是老牌子刊的被拒以后就建议投
NC和Cell reports.
我个人经验,投到Immunity的文章,review了第一轮以后,editor说要reject, 建议投
Cell Reports. 不过俺们后来还是revise然后resubmit,最后收了。 NC现在个稿源很
多,Cell reports好想还不行。听前辈们说好像只要是Cell和Nature有竞争关系的99%
的可能性Cell会完败。

eidtor建议我们投 cell reports,说cell reports的editor对我们文章感兴趣.查查
cell reports影响因子才7,有点不爽。想再投投 plos biology。

对的,很多研究单纯就靠几个所谓marker的表达水平来鉴定stem cell identity确实不
可行。
lineage tracing不完美,比如leakage等问题。不过已经是当前能做到的最好的了。依
然该是金标准。
没有一个marker是完美的。比如alexandra joyner的那篇关于GLi1+ cell作为hair
follicle stem cell marker的文章。单纯从lineage tracing结果来看其实并不完美,
其对hair follicle的contribution并不完全,但是重要的是他们揭示了这群gli1+
cell是受神经分泌的Shh的调控的。这就重要了。marker不是目的,找到一个marker就
意味着一个in vivo model的建立以及一个可能的新的regulatory mechanism.
到底什么是stem cell.我很赞同你的观点。。stem cell 到底是个identity还是个功能
? 这个问题现在很难回答。

经典的干细胞理论模式和定义基本都是来源于HSC的研究,单个HSC以一种hierachical
的方式逐级重建整个H-lineage 。也由此self-renewal,multipotential 成为干细胞的
定义。
但实际上别的organ的干细胞并非如此。self-renewal是当然的。可multipotential 这
可真未必了。unipotential的就不能叫stem cell? 我认为这个定义需要修改。实际上
在现在很多stem cell研究里multipotential已不再是评价指标之一了,尤其在lineage
tracing 技术出现之后。有意思的是,好像HSC目前好像没人以lineage tracing的方
式去做过研究吧。我对HSC知道不多.
关于hierachy, 可能只有HSC被了解得很清楚。别的tissue specific stem cell是否也
有这样的hierachy? 我自己感兴趣的是transit amplifying cell (TA cell). 在mouse

It has more advantage comparing pure c-Si.

就是用 把 Organic 和inorganic的hybrid 构成Heterojunction 还使用,
其实 dye-sensitized solar cell 也算一种hybrid,不过现在搞Organic solar cell
很时髦(不知道为啥这么低的效率,Organic solar cell 还能开公司)。现在就有人
搞起来了Hybrid solar cell。
看目前样子,dye-sensitized solar cell 快到头了,效率很难提高到10%以上了。

cpu/gpu之间,只是借鉴gpu思路。其实也说不好借鉴。cell和ee思路相当一致。ee的时
候gpu都还没出。
具体的效率跟应用程序有关。脱离了没意义。专门写个对p4特别友好的程序很可能p4超
过core duo. 俺说过了某些特殊的计算gpu应该更快。但是多数情况下cell更强。再说
连精度都是问题。至少俺觉得目前普通科学计算cell更强。这是个人看法,不要求别人
相信,俺也没啥证据。。 gpgpu已经几年了,比cell时间可长不少呢,当然前景还是
不错的,就是别太高估计。

smaller cells。现在俺想在几个小cell中分别插入背景图片,那么该如何查看这些小
cell的width/height?俺需要知道这个宽和高,这样才能在Photoshop中做出相应的图
片。俺contral+click individual cell,但显然这个方法不对。
