well, actually i mean, if the extra space (other than input) this
algorithm uses is constant (like O(10)), then the space complexity is
constant; if extra space not constant (like O(N^2)), then complexity not
constant.
i don't think this means 'constant means extra space' or 'there cannot be
any constant space algorithm...' as you said, :)
well, i guess you might mean we have to (at least) read all elements from
input in O(n). but merely doing this will not 'use' the input as space (in

If I am not missing somthing here, the sufficiency is not correct. For
example, choose the function sigma(y,t) to be the constant 1, then clearly
we have sigma(X,t) is deterministic (identically 1). But the corresponding
SDE becomes dX(t)=dW(t), so that the solution is X(t)=X(0)+W(t), whose
quadratic variation [X](t)=t, this is not a constant.
Maybe the question should be changed into:
If dX(t)=sigma(X(t),t)dW(t), then the following are equivalent:

就是如何写iterations。比如我需要得到如下function的运算结果:
f(x) = p*f(x-1), x>=1, p=constant
到最下面时比如x=1, 则f()有固定的distribution或者直接f(0)=constant。
如果我直接在R中输入如上f(x) = p*f(x-1)运行,R会告诉我“could not find
function f”。

既然有人争论方的学术水平,就上网搜了一下。应该说这个水平对于一个junior
faculty来说可以算是很牛B了,但是对于老方这种senior的已经搞了一辈子的人来说,
就只能算so so。不要说是院士,离aps fellow的级别也还差了不少。引用率最高的一
篇文章还是95年到了arizona之后跟老外合作的,被引118次,这也是方唯一一篇被引用
上百次的文章。可见方励之89之前确实没有做出过什么重要的工作,他的名声和地位绝
对是靠政治得来的,当然其中部分的也是80年在中国搞科普所得,必须承认科普工作也是
有重要的社会意义的。
(BTW,有人说你这个搜索未必完整。不错,确实不能保证100%毫无遗漏。但是我
