A dividend-paying stock's ex-dividend date is very important to investors.
In a nutshell, if you buy a dividend stock before the ex-dividend date, then
you will receive the next upcoming dividend payment. If you purchase the
stock on or after the ex-dividend date, you will not receive the dividend.
The converse of this rule also holds true -- if you sell a stock before the
ex-dividend date, you will not receive the dividend, but if you sell on or

Below are 10 companies that have paid a dividend for over 100 years and have

What does the Record Date mean?
Shareholders who properly registered their ownership on or before the record

ex-dividend date.

Thanks for your question. I purchased on May 7th. But I did not think I need
to hold for 3 months to get dividend. The ex-dividend date is May 24th, and
record date is May 26th.
According to what I found here:
http://www.sec.gov/answers/dividen.htm , as long as investor purchased before ex-dividend date, he should be able to get dividend.
Correct me, if I was wrong. Thanks so much.

Amount 1 Ex-Dividend Date Record Date Pay Date
$2.99 9/12/2011 8/31/2011 9/9/2011
