chance to get into a rigorous college prep program.
At a news conference on Friday at a school on the city's South Side, Mayor
Rahm Emanuel announced that the number of schools with the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme will be nearly doubled.
He says adding 10 programs to the more than a dozen already in place will
increase the number of participating students from about 3,500 to as many as
7,000.

Emanuel市长上任前答应了给4年合同，上任之后马上翻脸，所有合同不算数，还让教师
额外教30%的书for free。

在5年拿到tenure前，如果校长叫你走人，你就走人，和corporate一模一样，工会不能
保护你的。拿到tenure以后工会稍微起一点作用。但如果performance不好有足够的
record，或者学校减员还是可以裁的。因为学区不好直接把学校关掉的都有。每年有限
额关学校或者put on probation的。有些不好的学区的学校，隔三差五的上probation
。做这种学校的老师，要么提心吊胆熬一年是一年，要么只有跳到CPS里好学区的学校
去。前几年经济不好
的时候，学校redundant的老师也很多。被裁下来的只好先做sub，如果做了一年sub还
找不到CPS里的其他学校工作，tenure就没有了
CPS的老师还被要求必须住在city limit里，在郊区安家不行。如果离开CPS系统，原来
的tenure就没有了，十几年教龄的换到private school或者suburbs的公立学校，工资
又一夜回到解放前，和两三年教龄的新老师差不多。跳槽都限制这么多。这些情况你知
道吗？

罢工的目的之一也是希望Emanuel和CPS对这些系统性的问题有个交代
97%的CPS老师voted for strike，如果说着97%全是混混，全是吃大锅饭的，只有那没
投罢工的3%是优秀教师，在兢兢业业教书育人的，未免说不过去 |

个包子都不给。
btw: 我有U of Chicago Lab school college placements. Lab是芝加哥最好的
private school,OB的俩女儿没去DC前的学校,还有芝加哥市长Emanuel的三个孩子现在
都在那上学. 有兴趣私信. 拿芝加哥最好的private school对照一下郊区public
school,对有娃父母决定选择住城里还是郊区,或者选择去什么学校多个参考. 给一个包
子就成. :-) |

Roughly 1,100 Chicago Public Schools employees are being laid off, among
them 550 teachers whose jobs were cut because of declining enrollment,
officials said Thursday.
The teachers who were laid off are eligible to reapply for jobs elsewhere in
