我刚刚才知道。1982年底特律的华裔移民Vincent Chin（陈果仁）被两个仇恨亚裔的白
人用棒球棍猛击头部致死。两个白人被控二级谋杀（second-degree murder），结果法
院裁决为过失杀人（manslaughter），判三年缓刑，牢都不用坐。另罚款三千，并付
780美元的庭审费。亚裔组织大规模集体抗议，案件轰动全美，被认为是美国亚裔组织
反歧视运动的起源。
法庭迫于压力重审，先判了个25年徒刑，但两年后又推翻了，因为发现有律师教唆见证
人。最后作为民事诉讼取得庭外和解，两个凶手各向陈家赔偿5万和150万美元。
庭外和解后，陈果仁的妈妈离开美国伤心地，回到广州老家。2001年她回美国治病

country should treat their fellow human beings. These jobs of janitors,
burger flippers, cashiers, security guards need our humans to do. They are
not slaves.
The reason that the poor go to ERs is because the rich is exploiting them.
We might as well lock them up in chains and make them slaves. If so, who
knows, you might as well become one yourself. |

Watching the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan campaign this past week has been almost a
surreal experience. Imagine – two passionate, articulate Republicans
taking the fight directly to their opponents and demolishing the Democrats’
emotion-laced memes with simple, direct arguments. The last time we saw
anything like this was 1980, and George H. W. Bush was no Paul Ryan.
