上来请教一个问题。。。。
因为种种原因,我很怕跟同事关系搞不好,尤其忌讳被学生扯进去其它同事的纠纷。。
。。最近却偏偏遇到这么一件事情,请教下大家觉得该怎么办?
我一直有一个很能干的grader (T),她跟我做了好几个学期了,我们互相都很适应。
。这学期教的课有一百个人,所以需要2个grader, 就又新找了D。。grader 涉及到5项
任务:
1)每人判50个人的作业;
2)负责解答学生发到邮箱里的问题,因为我一个人忙不过来;
3)跟作业相关的recitation,这个需要准备而且需要去教室讲课;
4)把作业的答案及时上传到网上(solution不用新作,因为题目跟以前的一样)。。。
因为T跟我做了好几个学期了,所以经过大家三人商量后,T自动承担了1-4,D只做1。
。。开始相安无事,直到10月初,T因为找到了工作就辞掉了grader工作,她临走前帮
我找到了N来接替她,她们自己商量好是由D来接管T原来的那些活儿(因为N是新手)。。
没几天功夫,D不愿意回答学生的问题了(2),她没有直接跟我讲,而是在学生问她问

你最初的答复:
“你不用回答学生的问题了,但其实我是一个很好相处的人跟以前的graders都相处地
不错,如果你直接来跟我说的话,我从来不强人所难,你饶过我去抱怨到复系主任那里
就太严重了”
这段话尺度掌握不是很好。学生想要质疑你对grader职责的理解,系副主任一般管教学
或者研究生事务,她去问,谈不上“太严重”。而且本来就是工作上的事,你不应该说
自己跟以前graders相处如何、从来不强人所难这些话,就按规定来,公事公办就好了。
这个学生显然不是善茬。系副主任有可能对你有意见,也有可能是要息事宁人,和和稀
泥对付过去。
这事儿没什么大不了的,系副主任也不是啥VIP,就算他听信了学生一面之词误会你了
,你也没必要刻意去洗刷自己。放松点儿,接下来该干啥干啥,别纠结。

他们本来也拿不了几个钱

初步想了一下,这个好像跟质数有关,1开着,所有的质数都关着,但是合数的就不一定
了,难道和数要没个单独看?
有没有简单的办法?

说说我的感受吧,纯属个人意见,仅供参考。
我前一阵刚刚一次通过。
我虽然非常非常讨厌FAP(参见以前的抱怨贴),但是我觉得FA的grader还是很不错的
。(前一阵有一个FA grader在outpost上回答了很多问题,相当nice。后来可能他说的
太多了,SOA不爽,他的大部分帖子被删了,呵呵。)
我觉得FA最重要的是真正的理解整个project,然后回答所有问题,并且要说的make
sense。整个FA大概要写20来页,如果你半懂不懂,其实很容易被看出来的。我觉得只
要grader看出你确实明白了,而且没有漏题,就会让你过的。outpost上有一个survey
,50%一次过,当然了样品比较小。
如果没过,说明两位不同grader都觉得你没过。因为过程是,第一个grader说你过你就
过;如果第一个grader不过,会有第二个再看你的卷子,如果第二个不过你就fail了;
如果第二个过,会有第三个grader再阅一遍,最后这个有最终决定权。
所以所有不过的都是两位grader觉得你不过,我觉得基本上就是你没有真正理解题。

胖小妈有个习惯:小朋友的事情,顶多提前两三天通知,以避免回答“什么时候才 ……”的问题超过一百遍。
这个适用于打针,做手术,旅行,生妹妹等等重大事件。
胖小第一次看牙医,头一天被老妈告知明天看医生,第二天就上了牙医的椅子。等胖小妈跟其他妈妈聊天,才发现原来小朋友看牙医前可以花几个月讲故事做心理准备……
胖小倒是有一种处乱不惊的态度,从来不为这些应该紧张的事情紧张。
(当然,为了其他本该属于鸡毛蒜皮的小事freak out,是另外一回事。)
八月底的一个星期四,老妈对胖小说:“下个礼拜上学,明天去学校看看。”
这时候离kindergarten开学还有三天。
于是第二天,胖小和老妈orientation去了。
对胖小妈这种不善于适应新事物的人来说,娃娃头一遭上学其实是件很让人紧张的事。疫苗打没打够,表填没填完,after school 怎么去,小朋友在学校怎么吃午饭,老师布置作业娃忘了怎么办?学校寄来的packet才四页纸,老妈觉得四十页也不够。
这些显然都不属于胖小本人关心的范畴。一路上胖小心情愉快。Daycare上到中午就被接出来,而且妹妹得不到同等待遇!胖小觉得赚了。

七月四日,是美国国庆日。在美国居住二十多年,每年看美国的国庆日庆祝活动,都相
当感慨,它至少有两个特色:
首先,美国各地的庆祝活动,不是官方为了宣传国家强大、执政党伟大光荣正确而组织
的,而主要是由民间团体或私人公司举办的。像纽约每年的国庆焰火,都是由梅西(
Macys)百货公司举办的。焰火相当绚丽多彩,据说要几百万美元。而首都华盛顿的焰
火,以及各地的庆祝游行活动等等,几乎都是私人团体举办的。而不像共产国家那样,
从来都是倾国家之力,做政府一手操纵的宣传。
美国国庆纪念活动的第二个特色是,它虽然是纪念国家的建立,但主要是赞美这个国家
保障了每个人的自由,给个人提供了发展的机会,也就是这个国家刚刚建立时发表的《
独立宣言》所确立的那些原则。美国人不说国庆日,而是把七月四日称为“独立日”,

有没有 grader 差别很大,有grader就干教几堂课,非常轻松。改作业简直就像又多教
了半门课。我拿不到grader的时候,就从自己房顶里挤出2000刀,雇自己研究生做
grader。

印度TA都来阴的,每次project给我乱扣分,grading guideline 上写的很清楚的东西
,一个图片transformation, 我就加了loop,就是transform完了,又重新开始。。。一
开始印度grader居然因为这个给我扣分,恶心死我了。后来第二个作业也是,老师没规
定performance时间,只要转换没有错误就ok了,结果又给我扣分,说我太慢,也没说
到底要求多快我是和要求差多少,grading guideline上都没有时间这一条
最后都被我要回
建议国人不用对烙印客气
我们呢上个学期还有一门课,一个烙印从一个grader那边问来答案然后改试卷去另一个
grader那边要分数,两次考试都这样,最后被graders发现了还厚脸皮一直来着不走。
。。。国人就是对烙印太客气,这样都不通报给老师
看看现在工业界烙印抱团现象,国人真的要醒悟,没必要对烙印客气,恨恨地对他们,
她们比我们阴得多

我个人的看法:
这种事情,一定要管 -- 但也不要太小题大做。
1) 主要意义是应该教会儿子如何应对这种事情。丢了一颗巧克力本身的损失,可以忽
略不计。
2) 弄清校车上是否有负责的大人,还是只有司机; 如果出现了问题,比如小孩子吐
了,或发生纠纷了,规定的流程是谁负责,这个你要搞清,然后教给孩子 -- 美国的
体制,不可能有一个阶段让孩子们totally unsupervised。 如果有, 直接联系其他家
长找到学区里去 -- it would be a BIG deal. 如果不是,一定要搞清楚这个
supervising adult是谁。
3) 要孩子学会,这样的事情发生了,第一时间raise the issue to supervising
adult。
4) 亡羊补牢,上面的流程是家长在发生问题前就“应该”知道的,如果不是,现在去
figure out, 并且找到supervising adult, 和offending 5th grader。 应该做到的

中国一直在推进那个能让自己拥有世界上最长的高速公路系统的计划。
China is still moving ahead with plans that will give it the world’s
biggest highway system.
随着中国经济的快速增长,能让这个国家一直在动也成了政府的首要任务。在过去几十
年的基建浪潮中,车辆的数目也在快速增长,而现在有了些制约因素。
许多人都会想到史上最糟糕的交通堵塞:2010年8月,京藏高速公路上的大堵车,绵延
100公里,被堵20天。造成这个混乱的原因是铁路线出了问题,几百辆卡车通过公路从
内蒙向北京运煤。
中国在2009年已经取代美国成为最大的轿车和面包车(厢车)市场,当年全国共有1360
万辆车售出。因此去年北京启用新的规定来限制车辆的购买。相关人员介绍:2011年只
有24万购车上牌名额,是2010年的三分之一。

问你们系主任要TA啊。我今年教一门40人的课,传统来说是没有grader的。但是我
觉得给40多人改作业还是太花时间,于是就去跟系主任强调一个grader的重要性,
然后就给配了一个。这门课的其他几个sections的老师也跟着赚了一个grader。
从这方面来说,我们系主任一直还是很支持我的。
