Lesson 6
The Humiliation of Christ
Lord's Day 14 - 16
The humiliation of Christ
After discussing the names of the Mediator, the instructor now deals with
the states. "States" refer to the relationship with God. Lord's Days 14, 15
and 16 deal with the state of humiliation, which is divided into degrees. "
Degrees" view the ever-deepening process of Christ's suffering. Over against
this progressive humiliation, there is also a progressive exaltation.

CREATIVE WRITING

The first story Maya wrote was about a world in which people split
themselves in two instead of reproducing. In that world, every person could,
at any given moment, turn into two beings, each one half his/her age. Some
chose to do this when they were young; for instance, an eighteen-year-old
might split into two nine-year-olds. Others would wait until they’d
established themselves professionally and financially and go for it only in
middle age. The heroine of Maya...

How a Soccer Star Is Made
The youth academy of the famed dutch soccer club Ajax is grandiosely called
De Toekomst — The Future. Set down beside a highway in an unprepossessing
district of Amsterdam, it consists of eight well-kept playing fields and a
two-story building that houses locker rooms, classrooms, workout facilities
and offices for coaches and sports scientists. In an airy cafe and bar,
players are served meals and visitors can have a...

On the Marionette Theatre
by Heinrich von Kleist
Translated by Idris Parry
One evening in the winter of 1801 I met an old friend in a public park. He
had recently been appointed principal dancer at the local theatre and was
enjoying immense popularity with the audiences. I told him I had been
surprised to see him more than once at the marionette theatre which had been
put up in the market-place to entertain the public with dramatic burlesques
interspersed with song and dance. He assured me...
