The website of Clifford Kubiak from UCSD had a page in poor taste taken down
recently. The website listed the lab rules to follow while working in the
Kubiak group. Most of the rules are written in a tongue-in-cheek fashion
covering basic safety awareness. However, Lab Rule #3 stands out. The image
of the offending website is shown below, and implies that the word of
Chinese colleagues should not be trusted.

我个人觉得重点必需是利用群众力量和互联网的宣传，
再加由互联网导致的传统媒体的报导，达到高效益的结果。
一个窝囊的人不会因为是律师就不再窝囊。
当年卡扎菲政变后其下属(少校)出面代表利比亚，
而伊朗的庞大律师团则代表伊朗，和米欧石油巨头谈判。
猜猜最后结果如何？
1。伊朗律师团先达成协议，取得大幅度的原油涨价。
伊朗国王巴勒维得到消息后相当高兴和满意。
2。不过几天，利比亚的军人谈判团也和米欧达成协议。
但米欧的石油巨头给利比亚的原油价大大高过给伊朗的。
3。消息传到伊朗国王巴勒维的耳朵，国王转喜为怒，
觉得他的这些留学西方法律学院毕业出来的伊朗律师团，
居然远远还不如一个从来没受过法律教育的利比亚少校军官。
该少校后来变成利比亚的首相，显然当之无愧。

RoamingGhost 网友的信为模板写了一封公开信，对Lab Rule 3提出了质疑。如果
你搜索 "Kubiak UCSD"的话，应该会发现这封信出现在很靠前的位置。这封信发
表之后收到了好几个网友的回复，其中包括两个曾经在Kubiak实验室工作过的亚
裔学生。不久之前我又看到UCSD官方的 《An apology for insensitive
comments on Professor Kubiak's research lab website》 。那两个亚裔学生
的回复以及UCSD官方的表态，让我觉得，我们不应在此事上过分上纲上线，穷追
不舍。能放手处既放手，得饶人处且饶人。理由如下：
第一：Kubiak教授人本质上应该不坏。Lab Rule 3应该算是开了一个不聪明的玩
笑。下面是两个曾经在Kubiak实验室工作过的亚裔学生的在我博客上的回复，谈
到了他们对Kubiak教授的印象。

，Elway是状元，Kubiak是第八轮197位。Kubiak给Elway做了9年替补直到退休去当教练
。两人是室友，铁哥们。

more than a half hearted apology letter.
I can think of some languages if you want to draft this letter on your own.
I m no native speaker, so these are just suggestions.
Even if the remarks on the "Lab Rules" were for humorous intention, it
clearly showed INSENSITIVENESS, POOR JUDGEMENT and DISRESPECT TOWARD
MINORITIES.

It is not a humorous case. It is not an assault to a single person. Dr.
Kubiak assaulted the whole Chinese Community.

给他们自己给足面子可以作为他们反歧视的成绩。但对歧视华人本身来说不会有实质性
的帮助。UCSD是财大气粗的州校，如果这个事情闹大会影响到他们的funding和名誉，
所以他们不得不重视。之前学校的信说把事情转交给Office for the Prevention of
Harassment and Discrimination。这个一定要follow up到底。建议现在的工作目标不
是逼迫Kubiak辞职而是逼迫UCSD每年拿出几百万经费用于在学校员工和学生进行反歧视
再教育并且组成专门委员会监督学校教育进程和结果。美国这个社会，不让他们破财是
不会让他们重视的。如果真的组织诉讼，建议也是要求成立这种委员会而不是直接赔钱
