Thanks for the suggestions on MCAT verbal from Jon and Jordan, two awesome
teachers from EK. I've started to apply the critical reading method for MCAT
verbal on my other reading assignment.
Instead of reading for the details as I usually do, now when I have a tough
reading task, I keep ask myself, "What is the main idea? What is the thesis?

认真准备MCAT 有一两个月了。最近EK101 verbal做的还算顺手，一般能按时做完，然
后40个里错
个11个或者12个。我对自己也挺满意了。真的考试的时候要能这样，就很好了。
这两天做的EK101 有两个passages, 都是跟morality啊，ethics有关，我错的一塌糊涂
。郁闷
之下，就让老公帮着做做。看看我的问题在哪里。我帮他掐的时间，每个passage不许
超过8分钟。
第一个passage, 五个题，我全错。
老公错了2个。
第二个passage, 六个题，我错了四个。
老公错了3个。
我练MCAT 阅读已经很久了。平时英文书啊，新闻啊，看的也不少啊。老公天天看的就
是mit,和中文
八卦啊，或者就是他的英文文献。他从来不看英文新闻。他做过的所有的MCAT
passages 也就都是
我做了糊涂仍给他看看的。
感觉好失败啊！难道这么多年的MCAT verbal , 就白练了？这么多年的NY times, the
Atlantic, 就白看啦？以前测过智商，老公比我高40, 难道我MCAT的成绩就被我的智商

8是verbal.
我计划明年夏天开始申请。反复考虑后决定明年再重考一次MCAT. 因为不是很肯定我
2006年的成绩到那时是
否还有效。也想再考一次提高些成绩。另，上次的写作也考的很差。

a. AAMC resources
首先可以好好看看 AAMC的介绍。AAMC有很详细的考试大纲。并且有很多writing的题目
。我觉得如果要自己
练写作的话， ＡＡＭＣ提供的写作题就够练的了。

AAMC有八套全真题，那是一定要买的啦。
b. Kaplan resources:
我一直用的是Kaplan的教材。第一次考的时候因为n年没碰过书了，所以去上了Kaplan
的班。这次发现
kaplan的班费用大涨，而且我已经基本熟悉考试的的情况。所以决定省钱。我觉得
kaplan的教材不错。因为
我本科是学生物的，所以教材的内容其实都学过了，基本上就是对着教材 |

your case then, it should be much easier for you. I would say from now
till June is more than enough for you to crack MCAT given your
background, if you can spend around 2-3 hours everyday studying. I
concur with what Dreamchaser said. And you don't need to spend $1800 in
attending MCAT prep class. Huge waste of money. Verbal is usually the
most difficult part for Chinese, but since you attended college here,

2. MCAT>31是多少？33，35,37,39？
3. Top 30：藤校/Stanford，还是Johns Hopkins/UChicago/WashU/UC Berkeley/UCLA
这个档次的？
4. Faculty是Clinical Faculty还是Research Faculty？
5. GPA 3.4也能拿Honors？
GPA 3.4是个致命伤，MCAT再高，Top 40的医学院也基本没指望了。藤校/Stanford毕业
的，如果MCAT能考到35+，还能进中等的。JH/UofC/WashU/Berkeley/UCLA这个级别的，
MCAT37+，也许能进中等的。再低的，很可能只能在本州的州立（如果有绿卡），或者
私立的排名很低的学校里试试运气了。现在MCAT水分多了，31都不够及格线了。
Georgetown好像有个Master Program，跟医学院头两年一起上大课，GPA要是够了，还
能挤进他们的医学院，要是不够，那就彻底跟美国的MD医学院说再见吧。
DO还有加勒比也可以考虑。

have solid phy/bio/chem/o-chem background, 3 months might be more than
enough. examkrackers review materials and their sample problem sets (
especially in verbal) are very high-yield. by a solid background i mean you
will be mostly reviewing but not learning them from scratch. there is quite
some randomness in this med. app. process, i'd suggest you to look at a bit

earlier, like in May or the latest, June. If you take it in July, the
score won't be out until August, and it is considered rather late in the
application cycle, esp. for non-traditional applicants. Also if you take
in July, when will you find time to write your application assays?
There's still 3 month between now and May, enough to prep for MCAT, if

Despite the effort I need to spend on my new born baby :-) and in full time job, I 've been studying MCAT for 1 month so far. Feel like there are still a lot to do before I actually take the test.
Not sure about your definition of non-traditional applicants.

精华区里有很多前人的宝贵经验，我的建议是早开始做题，ps/bs真的不难，只要那些课程都学过，把examcrakers快快的过一遍，然后多做题，mcat考一些需要记忆的概念，但都是比较基本的，很多大部头的信息（比如说内分泌的那些激素啦）题目中一般都会提供，最终考得还是偏重理解、推理，which is nice hehe。科学这部分我买了examcrackers 1001系列，还有princeton review系列，后者可以到ebay上找，说来惭愧，我做题开始的太晚，最后书的利用率不到20%，aamc也才做了不到4套，//blush，大家把科学部分ace了应该不是问题的，加油；vr考的阅读能力短期提高不容易，目前的趋势是文章越来越长（至少从前几次考试大家的反馈来看），建议把examcrackers的vr 101好好过一遍，然后把aamc的练习题目都做了；写作可以去看看aamc的范文，非常的八股，应该不是问题。
aamc一共有8套真题（3-10），3是免费的，书过完之后可以拿来练练手，这一套稍微简单点，不过可以涨涨信心让心里有个底哈~~~ 我个人的感觉是这个考试要比gre/l |

我个人觉得examkrackers就很好，物理化学有机可以快快过一遍；生物总的来说重要知
识点都有了，少的是一些细节，有时间的话可以找本生物书或者wiki来帮助加强理解，
我觉得生物可以把书多过两遍，看完书多做点题，bio 1001据说不错；vr的那本教程我
觉得对我自己用处不大，但是vr 101 passages很多人都说很好，买了以后我一直没舍
得做，直到考完ft，我还搞来了20年的lsat阅读真题，个人感觉lsat阅读比gre难一点
，和mcat差不多，以我有限的经验来看lsat文章稍微有点偏短，但是也是很好的练习。
完整模拟题有aamc的3-10，Kaplan有10套左右，princeton review/berkeley review各
有若干套，有时间都做了的话ps/bs拿个25-26应该不是问题，再高我个人感觉要靠细心
和知识全面，这个就看个人的修行了。aamc的模拟题系统很方便，每道题目都有比较详
尽的解释，而且按照科目给你分类，aamc pt3是免费的，偏容易，但是早期可以作为诊
断以及增强信心考试，我就是做了这一套马 |

过几次。想听听各位大虾的建议。先多谢谢了！TRP 的hyperlearning verbal
workbook做的成绩通常还行，EK101错的惨不忍睹, 全真题做过两个AAMC 3拿了8,
AAMC8 拿了10. 但是这两套真题的passages我看了都很眼熟，曾经做过的。
(1) 还有一个月， verbal 还有可能提高吗？
还要继续坚持做题，复盘吗？、
还是就直接放弃verbal, 专心学习Physics和Bio?
如果说放弃verbal, practice verbal 的频率以多少合适呢？比如就只做真题里的
verbal?
(2) 读passage前，先看一下问题，有用吗？
豆角说不管用。我试过了。也感觉不太有用。
有的时候，读了问题，再读passage, 反而有distraction.
而且如果先读问题，每个passage, 总是还要多花40秒到一分钟的时间。
但是有的时候，从问题中抓到一个关键词或者人名，在读passage的时候就可以格外注
意。

final month.
Right now my Physics scores are around 13, I am not worried about that.
My Bio score ranges from 8-11, which gives me space to improve.
Taking extra verbal practices are very time consuming. For example, it
usually takes me 3 hours to finish and review a set of EK verbal. If the
time spent on verbal cannot improve my verbal from 8/9 to 9/10, I would
rather spend the time on reviewing Bio contents.

因为老公要教我，他在我做完以后，也做了一遍。
下面是两个人用的时间和正确率
(1) Physics
一共77个题
我错了10个，按时做完。
老公错了3个，提前三十分钟做完。
(2) Verbal
一共60个题
我错了26个， 超时十分钟做完。
老公错了22个， 提前十分钟做完。
(3) Bio
一共77个题。
我错了17个，超时15分钟做完
老公错了6个，提前25分钟做完。
这都啥事啊？再过没几天就要考试了。现在我觉得很灰心，还要去考吗？辛辛苦苦看了
两个月书了。
做了n套verbal. 天天想的就是detla G啊， NADH啊。
老公根本就没怎么做过verbal. 更别提花时间复习physics, bio什么的了。不过，他学
的是O-
chem. 我没办法跟他比。
都想哭了。这个世界，没有公平可言。不如我还是回家，带娃，生娃算了 :( |

看了2遍EK biology的书，里面题目也作了
第一次做AAMC真题bio只有7分
后来花了很多时间在bio上，包括考前最后的时间
最后3道AAMC真题的bio都10，11分了
但是到真实考试，bio成绩出来只有7分（都最后没时间做最后一篇，都填B或者C就到时
间了），呜呜
看到版上那么多大侠，bio都是14，15分的
我真的不明白自己是复习方法不对，还是脑子不好用
请问大家是怎么复习，复习了多久，什么方法才能考到14-15分以上的成绩啊

发帖数: 86 | 46 MCAT 对ESL就是考文科。 BIO 是science verbal。 如果你没有BIO PHD 背景， 要考
的好， 阅读一定要过关； 如果你有BIO PHD 背景，那阅读不好也没有关系， 13， 14
很轻松。
另外， 你不需要考13， 14 分， 但是分数要平衡。
15/8/15 = rejection from most medical schools
10/10/10 = good for average medical schools
12/12/12 = good for top 20 schools. |

发帖数: 53 | 47 To be honest with you, general biol is not enough for MCAT biol at all.
If you can't even handle general biol (unless your general biol is nation-
wide famous of being a badass in giving low grades), you probably won't
survive 1st year in med skul.
Truth hurts but if you really wanna do medicine, you have to work much much
harder on your biol.
I don't think you have a problem with your review strategy, you lack
foundation of basic knowledge.
