笨人一个，脑子有时进水就随口说话，之后又会后悔。第一年入职，人情世故懂得不多
，请各位前辈帮我看看……非常感激。
就是一个普通的lunch meeting，大家聊聊research，闲话，什么的。
A教授提起的话题是在学院里面正在进行的课程设置讨论，要不要做某个改变。
于是B教授就说，这个改变，不如另一个：嗨我觉得根本应该去掉这门课，改上另一门
！那个对于学生的人生有更多的帮助！本来吧，谁日常过日子需要知道xxx,ooo,和sss
啊！
然后几个男的就开始blabla争论，针锋相对几个回合。我和另一个中国女孩不吭声。我
个人话很少，这种场合总有点要开口的压力。于是在一个短暂的冷场的时候就……

去了Cupertino TownHall meeting,大部分参加者都是听自己喜欢听的。无须质疑，SCA
-5对亚裔不利。
提醒一个关键问题， 主持人提到如果变成亚裔和西裔非裔的种族矛盾，我们肯定输。
虽然说了许多大家喜欢听的话，David Lehrer还是提到非裔在UC太少是个需要解决的问
题（他也说SCA5不是solution). 台下oakland 市长竞选人可是非裔,人家听着呢。
在发泄对SCA-5的愤怒和反对SCA-5的时候，作为少数族裔要长期好好生存下去，我们必
须探讨寻找win-win solution. 如果只顾自己或让别的族裔这样认为，我们就很危险（
参见当初德国的犹太人）。如果找不到，只好居安思危，随时准备如何在大动乱时逃跑
了。 |

Space in Vista home and Netmeeting in WinXP are not compatible each other.
I notice Microsoft provides a Netmeeting software but it does not run in
Vista Home version.
Is there any way to setup an network meeting between Vista and WinXP.

1. 会议名字叫做Developmental Biology of the Sea Urchin，每一年半在Wools Hole
的MBL开一次，至今第20届，推来有30年的历史了。名字叫做Sea Urchin Meeting，其
实参加会议的还有很多做各种海洋生物的研究者。做海胆的目前没有中国大陆的PI，台
湾的前不久有了一个，日本和欧洲的不少，主要的还是北美的。北美大多数都是Eric
Davidson和David McClay的徒子徒孙们。这两位都年过七旬，会上给David McClay搞了
个简短的70岁庆祝。David每天跑步5英里，看起来就是五十多岁的样子。他亲自做实验
，micromere transfer做得是炉火纯青。Eric年纪更大些，据说因为得病，腿脚不好，
传说腿脚利索时还亲自潜水下海捞海胆。这两人自然都是大牛，文章灌水就不多说了，
Eric更是奠定了gene regulatory network的发展。当然据我老板说，最早的gene

度不明朗，总是说：如果你做到blah blah blah，如果你work hard，那就可以明年毕
业。（等于没说，因为条件拿捏在他自己手里）
两周后开annual committee meeting。想请教一下，如果想五年正常毕业，这次的
committee meeting需要额外注意些什么吗？比如：需要向committee秀一下thesis
outline。除此之外，大家还能给些建议吗？如何能给committee一些关于毕业的暗示？

事情是这样的，本人女，来美3年在念phd。导师也是中国人，50多快60了吧。
之前没有男朋友的时候，导师在一次作实验的时候有表达过求交往的意思，我怒了
，直接当面拒了。我想毕竟都是中国人，来美打拼不容易，他拿到教授这个职位也不容
易；另一方面我也跟他读了3年，也要念及师恩。所以我并没有把事情告诉其他人，或
者闹大去学校投诉什么的。我自己只是保持距离，注意说话的分寸，并且跟师娘保持问
候和联系。
后来我找到男朋友了，第一时间就让他看到，想着这件事也算完了。可是每次
individual meeting之后他都要求握手，我真的非常困扰。一次两次就算了，每次都这
样。有任何需要坐他车的时候，比如实验，开会，之后把我送回家，我下车前也要求握
