Introduction:
Cells that simultaneously secrete and sense the same signaling molecule are
ubiquitous. Bacteria sense a quorum by secreting and sensing an autoinducer;
T cells induce a monoclonal
immune response by secreting and sensing a cytokine; and epithelial cells
can become cancerous through misregulated secreting and sensing of a growth
factor. Many of these cells use the same core signaling-circuit motif to
realize a diverse repertoire of biological functions. The full range of

I think it means the pathway is not working normally as it is supposed to be
. In normal cells, numerous cellular pathways are being precisely regulated
to ensure a normal functional output. However, in the case of cancer, the
situation of pathways is usually found quite different. For example, p53
inactivation is frequently observed in many cancer types. This molecule is
critical in DNA repair, cell cycle as well as apoptosis of host cells.
Therefore, abnormality of this molecule would cause an... 阅读全帖

broad NMR signals of macro molecules (polymers, proteins)are caused by very
fast relaxation, i.e. short t1. t1 of protons in most small molecules are a
few seconds. 13C especially carbonyl 13C that has no protons attached to
have much longer t1, that is why 13C NMR is not as quantitative as 1H NMR.
Unless you want to have very accurate results (errors < 3%), there is no
need to set the relaxation delay to ~5x t1 instead of 1x or 2x t1 since
your experiment run time will be much longer.

So you want to know just how and why these polymers, these macromolecules, act
differently from small molecules. So we'll tell you. That's just the kind of
nice people we are. There are, for those of you who didn't bother to read the
title, three ways in which polymers will act differently from small molecules.
And the reasons are a little bit more complicated than just "because they're
bigger". The three are usually named:
