渡渡鸟，或作嘟嘟鸟（Dodo），拉丁学名：Raphus cucullatus又称毛里求斯渡渡鸟、
愚鸠、孤鸽，是仅产于印度洋毛里求斯岛上一种不会飞的鸟。这种鸟在被人类发现后仅
仅176年的时间里，便由于人类的捕杀和人类活动的影响彻底绝灭，堪称是除恐龙之外
最著名的已灭绝动物之一。也是毛里求斯唯一被定为国鸟的已灭绝鸟类。
牛津大学自然史博物馆（Oxford University Museum of Natural History）中，曾经
陈列有渡渡鸟最后一个完整的填充标本（标本号OUM 11605），可惜在1755年由于腐烂
而被馆长下令焚毁了。侥幸保存下来的一块头骨和一块脚骨，现在仍陈列在该馆中。
在早期的图片中，渡渡鸟一直是一种肥胖，愚蠢的形象。直到2002年2月，国家地理学

的相貌。
小猪鱿鱼学名为Helicocranchia pfefferi，它们看起来很像从卡通书里跑出来的小猪
。这种鳄梨大小的鱿鱼生活在水深200至1000米的地方，常常以倒立的姿势在水里游泳
，眼睛向上看，朝上的触手就好像圆滚滚的小猪头上的一圈毛发。
虽然很少能被摄影师拍到，但小猪鱿鱼很珍惜每次上镜的机会。拿最上方那张“微笑”
的图来说，一些随机排列而成的色素带组成了微笑的嘴型，而那里其实离鱿鱼的嘴还远
着呢。
吸血鬼鱿鱼（又名幽灵蛸）的学名为Vampyroteuthis infernalis，意思是“来自地狱
的吸血鬼鱿鱼”。1903年德国头足类动物学家卡尔·春（Carl Chun）首次记录了该物
种，他显然对这种鱿鱼的大红眼睛和黑色“斗篷”印象深刻。
这种神秘的动物在分类上介于鱿鱼和章鱼之间，而它那把触手都连结起来的“斗篷”在
头足类里堪称独一无二。吸血鬼鱿鱼在触手上长有数十个奇异的肉状突起，遇到捕食者
时还会喷出带有荧光小球的黏液。吸血鬼鱿鱼在“占领华尔街”运动中还被用来讽刺那
些像高盛这样的投行。
