孩子明年会去上公立小学，但是有觉得公立学校的kindergarten老师放假多，还要找
aftershcool care, 还不如继续在私立daycare上K呢？在私立， 老师放假少，孩子可
以早上去，下午接，不用担心afterschool.

My kid is in the school. I visited the campus orientation. Never heard about
high school section.
The school itself is ok, with lots of Asian population, especially Indians.
School pushes academics more than ordinary public school, but I don't think
it will outperform the best public schools.
The best priviate school in Houston is St. John's, www.sjs.org. You can
check there to see how strigent the entrance criteria is. |

我虽然还没受洗，可读书期间一直参加学校附近一家华人浸信会的bible学习和周日礼
拜，对浸信会颇有好感。自从搬到波士顿正好家附近有家波士顿最大华人浸信教会，一
直鼓励刚从国内来的孩子参加教会的kids sunday school。前两星期把孩子放在kids
sunday school到点我再去接， 然而今天刚把孩子送进去，出现一位自称kids sunday
school负责人说考虑到孩子的安全问题除非家长有参加sunday school和礼拜的才可把
孩子放在这里。言外之意家长一定要参加该教会的星期日活动才有资格把孩子留在kids
sunday school，象我未参加任何活动属于无资格者。看着我疑惑的双眼负责人又继续
说到家长不参加教会活动也行但必须待在同一房间才可以，听得我两眼直愣愣瞧着她，
心想：你可知道作为单身妈妈又不是家庭主妇好不容易有个休假日都要忙于做家务购物
，为了让孩子多了解bible才送她来kids sunday school，经她这么一说无奈只能从车

我现在在念pharmacology得phd，不喜欢，想转行。似乎生物方向的如果不想做研究，
一般都去找consulting firm或者继续去念law school做patent。
我现在考虑申请09年的law school（大概09年初phd毕业）。对于申请还是比较有信心
的。做了些真题以及那个kaplan得LSAT180，觉得有把握考170多，应该还是可以找到
top15左右的吧。
但是现在有点下不了决心。我是个很重视家庭生活的人，也想早点开始生比较多的小孩
子哈哈。我明年春天结婚，本来打算马上就开始要孩子，反正phd期间很清闲时间比较
灵活，但是一想到有可能去law school就有点犹豫了。
不知道如果有个小孩子的话，是不是精力上不够同时上law school得。如果我等到law
school毕业再开始生的话，就有点太老了，到时候就31了。我老公挣钱不是很多，所以
到时候还要我来工作养家糊口。
不好意思，扯太多。。主要就是想问问有经验的人们，如果在去law school之前有个小
baby的话，有可能survive law school |

知道，不许那么说我。
但是不行，我非得纠缠住这个Ivy League，我知道没有Ivy league law school一说，
但我原文中“Ivy league”和“law school”之间有一个“的”字，我的意思是常春藤
学校的law school。常春藤盟校的law school自然排名也是靠前的，比如前十名中的
Yale, Harvard, NYU, Columbia, UPenn，UM 等等，你自己去研究一下好了。我问Ivy
League的law school,这个问题的目的和效果是一样的，因此这个问题本身其实没毛病。
同志们能不能不要避实击虚，比方说我的问题本身不好啦，Princeton是ivy league但
没有law school因此逻辑不对啦，或者是啥啥啥的。如果你实际上明白我说的是咋回事
，就别在那儿那啥。
那我干脆还是把第三个条件修改成“排名前十五的law school”算了。没问题了吧？
说实话，我有点怀疑littlenorth说的“我的很多同学同事”都符合这三项条件。我 |

just like high schools in the US. Most law schools are cramped into a large
building complex, also similar to American high schools, at least public

classes. Exactly what are you paying 40K a year for? You are paying 40K a
year for an opportunity to be hired by a law firm.
To put it another way, it's almost as if the law firms and the law schools
came together and decided that top school will charge 40K a year, law firms
will only hire from those top schools, and they'll split the money. Is this
not a racket?

我们州（AZ）最好的学校是charter school，我的小孩也在一个charter school里读（
不是最好的那个系统）。
比较一下普通公立学校 vs charter school。后者学习的课程难度比较大，通常比较超
前（比如2年级学的是3年级的水平），通常课外活动也有要求，更多的选择（有硬性要
求），更多的比赛机会。也可能班级比较小。小孩被bullying的机会小很多。大的公立
学校，学生众多，管理起来很难，所以孩子学得好坏，需要多靠家长的努力和能力。如
果是非名牌公立学校，学生的大学ready比例比较低。这也就是为何在美国很多老中要
买学区房的一个理由。
你可以研究一下你所在区里有什么charter school，是否有规划要盖新的。
通常，还是有竞争，才会让教育走向良性的发展，否则公立学校光被教师工会折腾一下
，就会腐败，不务正业。 |

只能作为参考，出不出庭还是要自己衡量一下。
背景：VA居民，在Manassas, VA被抓。
事件：去年12月底在从另一城市机场回家的路上超速被抓，限速45，说我开了61。
罚款金额：如果直接认罪受罚，每超速1 mile是6刀，加上62刀的法庭费，一共158刀。
因为是第一次吃罚单，不希望有记录影响保险，而且想着万一胜诉，所以决定出庭。
出庭前：
（1）按照以往其他人的经验，首先要做的是推迟出庭时间。打电话给法庭，要求将原
本1月底的出庭时间延后，结果延后到2月25日，后来再次打电话想延后，被告诉无法通
过电话延第二次，如果要延，必须书面申请，然后由法官在开庭的时候决定。这点VA和
有些地方是不同的，网上看到过很多地方可以电话或者网上延两次。
（2）坐了一些准备，例如想了一些辩护理由。请两个同学写了书面testimony，但后来
上庭时法官说无法接受书面证词（这应该也和每个州的法律有关），必须出庭作证。

就注册去上课了，发现价格已经改了，是$19，

现在已经不能只是开着电脑耗时间了，我试着开机，但出去了3-4个小时，回来就要求
重新log in了。而且也不能直接参加final exam，必须答对各章的所有试题才能到达
final exam，而且各章的题目之后还有一题“security question”，就是问关于前面
学习材料中的图片、录像中的内容，所以还不得不点击看看，总共也需要不少时间。不
过有个节约时间的方法，就是先到问题的一页，看完问题再点击“previous”回到前一
页寻找答案，利用IE的“编辑”菜单下“查找（在当前页）”的功能可以快速定位。如
果中途log off再回来log in，得一页页翻过之前做过的章节，不过不需要重新做题就
是。到达上次退出地方，就自动加载之前这一章的内容。

发帖数: 11 | 44 这个话题很有意思。之所以有这个争吵，我想是因为很多人觉得teaching school是
research school的backup，也就是说如果找不到research school才去找teaching
school。
说实在的，原来我也有这种想法。但当我当了ta，后来interview找teaching school的
工作，到现在在teaching school教书，才完全意识到教书和作research是完完全全不
同的两个技能。能不能做好research和能不能教好书完全是两码事。教好课一点都不比
作好research容易，即使对没有语言障碍的人也是如此。所以比较这两个工作没有什么
意义，就象比较大象和松鼠谁聪明似的 -- 大象记忆力好，松鼠身手敏捷，完全是不同
的才能。
在我们中国人里确实认为research比teaching的level要高。我觉得楼主也没必要生气
。这个想法很普遍，也很正常。行业之间不了解总会有些误会。更何况中国人由于语言
问题不愿意教书也是一个客观事实。我自己在教课时也常因为语言的障碍苦恼不已。想
想如果用中文，可能课堂效果要好得多。

Application Supplemental Form (ASF)，
可是grad school现在都在放假，一直到1月2号，可那天刚好是b school的deadline
有战友已经submit了那个online Application Supplemental Form (ASF)了吗？里面都
是什么？我看b school里的application instruction也没有提到那个online
Application Supplemental Form。弄好了grad school那个申请后，我想现在我只差PS
和推荐人的information没有提交上去，PS我可以自己寄过去，可是推荐人信息这些怎
么弄上去啊？
知道情况的朋友麻烦说一下，谢谢了！（grad school一直放假放到1月2号，现在打电
话过去没有人接；系里估计顶多只有27，28号那两天才有人接电话。。。然后31，1号
