desktop。
可是发现设置挺麻烦，需要先配置一个terminal server license server。
装好以后发现还是用不了，好像需要花钱买license。
不知我有没有miss掉什么设置。
有没有高人能告诉我是不是一定要花钱买license才能用terminal server?
当然hack除外。

on Windows Server 2k8 without any modification? Supposed the software is
not designed to run on any server OS.

主要是自己的组做genomics的计算，考虑拿出一半的机器也让系里其他人submit job
我上学时候导师就是买了好几台mac pro做server，和系里的主服务器的存储系统是连
起来的。

server要的是稳定。你放在家里，电力、网络、维护都是问题；放在colocation，成本
不低。
租服务器挺好，一种是vps或者cloud service虚拟服务器；另一种是dedicated server
前者省事便宜性能稍弱；后者稍贵维护稍微麻烦价格贵性能强
看你的需求了
比如，你的应用如果不怎么涉及数据运算，那主要就是看IO跟带宽了，弄个VPS就行，
主要是网络问题稳定；如果你的数据操作多，就需要dedicated server搞运算了。
那我自己的网站做例子，http://www.dishesmap.com 一个美食review数据挖掘应用
涉及到后台大量的machine learning运算，数据量大响应时间要求高，我就自己租了
dedicated server，用的VolumeDrive，65块一个月，性能很不错。这个服务商可能是
最便宜的了。不过有时候网络不大稳定。
还有种变通的方案就是，把应用分成两块，用户界面比如web部分，放在租来的服务器

就让别人去管了。 :) 我们是用remote access来管的，没有配显卡，停电时
有专人去server room处理。
大型server的设计不太一样。如果我记得没错，Apple没做过大型server。
大约五六年前我看到的一个server node，一个4U大小的box打开，中间
一排密密麻麻的全是处理器模块（liquid cooling)，数了一下，大约有50
多个。两边各有一排DRAM模块，也是密密麻麻的，加在一起512GB，
很是壮观。标价当然也很壮观。 |

Web Server: iplanet (NES), or Apache
actually i am only familiar (or say quite familiar :-))
with iplanet. there are several articles on line, compare
those 2 web server (plus IIS). seems iplanet gets the best
overall score among the three on UNIX platform. I am not
surprised on that since anyway, Apache is free.
App. Server: the targets i am looking at including WebLogic,
Websphere, iplanet and Inprise app. server |

bandwidth， 以及如何实时得到这些 delay, available bandwidth只用reasonable
overhead.

transfer/copy/migrate it to another SQL Server in domain B. The problem is
that even I can access SQL Server A from .NET visual studio project in domain
B, I cannot find it when I try to register it in SQL Server in domain B. The
instance of server A is simply not in the list in enterpise manager.

Isolation level 是ANSI SQL 的标准，不是SQL Server 的概念。每个 rdbms 实现
Isolation level 的方式都不一样，这也是 Oracle 比 SQL Server 设计上更优异的
一个地方。举个简单的例子，Oracle 的 Undo image的概念保证了 non-blocking read
没有 dirty read 的忧虑，所以根本不需要象 SQL Sever 那样为了提高 performance
牺牲 integrity。换句话说，同样的 transaction isolation level 下 (by default

我给一个Financial 客户做了一个近似的方案几年前。
先做一个全局备份， 然后需要另外一台和这台差不多性能的， 连在SAN上。 把备份
restore 在新
的san上。
两台做transactional replication.
最后在旧的server 上做最后的tail backup， 然后把新的server做为新的prod。
600GB, 差不多200分钟备份， 200分钟restore, 然后看Xsac 多少， 差不多再来50分
钟SYNC,
这中间没有downtime.
mirroring 也可以。
