research associate算正式employee，有各种benefits，不能J1，而stanford一般不倾
向支持H1b，如果你没有绿卡，老板支持H1b要自己掏一笔钱，还要各种paper work。 |

1. 是我招人，但我不是PI，所以不是从我的grant出钱雇人，然而我可以在很大程度上
影响PI的决定。
2. Job description 大家也看到了，主要是替两个组做分析，可以check “http://changlab.stanford.edu/“ and “http://khavarilab.stanford.edu”. 两个组的research做的还可以，有兴趣可以具体看看最近几年的publication
3. 这是一个永久职位，可以办H1. 享受斯坦福staff benefits.
4. 工资大概7-8w之间，可以negotiate，但个人以为余地不大.
5. 多数为合作项目，如果足够优秀，也可以自己领导项目，有first或者co-first
author的paper.
6. 我在这个位置工作了5年半，做纯dry lab，靠着最近5年的积累，今年回国青千面试
了，个人以为如果想要做学术，并且又想比postdoc多赚钱，可以考虑(但你需要付出更
多的努力)，能学到新东西（我们希望招比较junior 的人，可以成长，不忽悠比较

告诉他到stanford最好读个phd. 光读个硕士好像不合算。 他也这样认为。 可是他问
了学校的老师。 斯坦福的人说没有直接招博士的。 都必须先读一年（一年就可以获得
硕士）。 然后再决定申请博士， 或者一个什么engineer的program. 我也不知道这个
是个什么program. 想请问版上有没有了解的同仁介绍一下那个engineer的program是个
什么东西。 还有就是一年以后申请博士的话是不是很难？ 谢谢各位了。 他还有
university of Michigan, University of Illinoi (champion), Georgia Tech 的
offer. 都没有奖学金。 |

几个去过CMU朋友是都力推CMU, 就说工作好找. 但是资深的(我们regional head, 还有
我们desk 的几个PHD & UCB MFE前辈)都是推Stanford, 就说品牌跟你一辈子, 训练又
未必不札实. 个人对Cornell改过的新课程也有兴趣, 面谈时mark就提了最后一学期在
NY上课系里已经通过了,听来不错阿
看了之前的帖子, 总觉得大家还是对CMU评价高, 街上也都如此嘛? 如果想留下工作,
CMU就绝对有优势了嘛?

placed in workplace. Stanford is a bit more research-oriented, thus has a
heavier quant bent. So if your criteria is job placement, I say slight edge
to Berkeley.
Having said this, I have a colleague who is from Stanford's program. Quite
competent fellow. |

到了Stanford 统计系三个月了，所有的体会可以总结为四句话：操作系统不能换－－
－－－－－在系里全部是Unix和Unix平台下的软件，极为不爽语言不能换－－－－－－

比如，我的oocyte retrieval, Stanford给没有保险的人的价格是$2500左右，但是
Blueshield contract price只有$720, 我只需要给$360。
还要注意的就是，不少验血的项目都是按照普通妇科划分，Stanford属于in network,
所以billable item不属于fertility treatment, 我只需要10% co-pay。找诊所的时候
要注意，能当普通妇科的项目一定要当普通妇科，可以照常报销。 |

烂的藤校brown/cornell/大茅都是十几位，不如芝大/caltech/duke。特别是布朗/大茅
，如果不是因为藤校虚名，排名更差很多。
要是看研究生，哈佛耶鲁以外的藤校就更一般了。 |

别的呢？一般来说，UCB的文理工的研究水平肯定是在UChicago之上。UCB专业很多，而
且大部分专业水平在全美前十。专业广泛而又强的学校在全美只有另一所：Stanford。
藤校的工科几乎都不行，只有一所在十名左右。 |
