偏向学术就留在美国争取tenture, 偏向应用，有commercialization 前景就来 A Star
新加坡政府希望能够把纯研究留在高校， A Star这样的研究机构更注重实用，和工业
界的implicaiton.所以他们的项目要根据市场和工业界的状况随时调整。。
A Star 的大多数项目能发patent 比能发paper 吃香， 会申请funding和拉工业界的合
作伙伴比纯research 吃香
如果你的研究可以commercilize, 会得到政府很多支持，初期的start up 政府会从各
方面帮忙， 包括planning, funding, licensing， human resource
我觉得Astar 是一个很适合把研究成果转化成有商业价值的产品的地方
对于纯研究的人来说会很不稳定， headcount 是跟project funding 走的， 市场方向
变了， project funding 如果没了，很可能不能续约。。 |

TF2绝对本年度最佳了，比up和star trek强太多了，那两个太垃圾。俺英语暴烂，基本
上是啥也听不懂，特别是机器人说话带金属声就更是一点也听不懂了，俺也根本不想听
懂啥，就是去看变形和对砍的，这级比上一级好看多了，终于看清楚怎么变形的了，而
且打架也很好看、很清楚，袁和平是武术指导？（最后看了半天字幕也没找到 Yuan
heping或者Yuan peace)。
说下缺点：人类小孩的戏太多了，还搞了很多他爸他妈的戏出来，还有一个不认识的傻
了 |

維修而某線不走或過某站不走，多留一點時間轉車
巴士走多久要看時間，lucky star行車時間約四小
時，但是中途會停半小時在burger king給上廁所或買吃的、抽煙什麼的…進紐約市區若遇到尖峰時
段
明明已經到紐約了還得再在路上龜半小時，所以四個半到五小時都可能
風華現場買票就好因為班次很多，lucky star強力不推一個小時才一班車，上次我直接
去現場買票就說下班車沒位問我要不要再買下下班的，看在他們有免費wifi還是買了，結果上車也沒
有，害我多浪費近兩小時在等車，同時間風華都走掉四五班車了…回程跟lucky star站務和撕票員
再三
確認有wifi才買票上車，還跟我保證有wifi給了金鑰，結果想當然而又沒有，從此我都選
megabus，
至少美國公司誠實
沒趕上能不能坐下班不清楚，megabus是交$5可以現場改班次

一些说明和观察,希望有用
1。这是去年的STAR成绩，今年没考STAR
2。我们是外州过来的，我觉得当时主要还是吃老本。虽然Lincoln的老师很好，但孩子
还在调整适应，并不是很入状态。
3。Lincoln的老师确实还不错。第二年的老师很match， 孩子每天都较愉快。
4。种种原因，现在上私立，所以今年没考STAR。是另一个全国（？）考试，还不错（
top percentage)，居然拿到了奖学金。
5。Lincoln作为亚洲新移民子弟学校，学生素质很好。今年孩子的party请了Lincoln的
两学生（一中一印)，很聪明，但both too aggressive，让我吃了一惊。
6。孩子来加州2年，英语口语带了一点口音，原来没有的。 |

都知道STAR TEST是设计给老莫娃考试的东西，老中的娃闭着眼睛都能做。
可这儿又要比双满分。
这种考试，小孩双满分就说明他/她智力好了？
未必。
我娃班上的娃，考STAR时就比谁每次交卷早。跟他们说了要复查都没用，连复查都没心
思。自然粗心出错了。

我们老中什么时候TMD不提STAR TEST双满分， 不把交钱得来的钢琴比赛“奖”弄到台

这几天陆续看到了大家在谈论review的事情。我想分享一下自己的体会。
我是college hire的，两年多以前才进入微软的。 我第一年的annual review是刚好新
review方法(1~5)实施的第一年。
我第一年的review得了3，但是因为一些特别的机会，我也得了gold star award。我当
时是想，既然我都有gold star了，而且我自己觉得我ramp up的也挺快的，最后拿个2
应该是差不多的，不过我拿的是3。我后来想 拿3也挺有道理的。 因为在新的review系
统中，是根据what & How来评定一个人的。虽然我觉得我ramp up的比较快，第一年表
现还可以，但是因为我是新人，我自己的ownership并不多，平心而论就what how而言
没什么出彩的地方。 我能够拿gold star完全是天父的恩典（我是基督徒），使我有一
个特别的机会去锻炼展示自己。
今年的review是我的第二年的review。 我拿了1，并且promotion了一级。 其中细节无

但是你问问那个科学家说要搞gravity generator的。现在生成g force的只有两个方法，mass和加速。这是基本物理定律。而且如果真的有gravity generator的话，这个可以有比用来在飞船上模拟重力更有意义的多的应用。毫无疑问，gravity generator在科幻片里面就是图个方便。
你把avatar当成只fantacy看那就是你的问题了。这个片子根像纳尼亚，指环王，star dust这些fantacy差的太远了。就算根像star trek, star wars, pitch black等sci-fi/fantacy比也现实多了。Avatar里面的飞船比较接近现实中的飞船。你看看其它那些片子里的飞船。都是追求外观不管实用性，科学性的。 |

另一个老看的是x-files,可惜后面太编了，没意思了。而且明显感觉编剧太悲观。
star trek是个积极向上充满理想主义色彩的片子，可以静静的一遍遍的看。而x-files则充满末世的恐慌和阴谋，只有moulder(?)和scully之间的真情还可以勉强支撑，也渐渐落入俗套。 |

Explanation: Astronomers have discovered a planetary system more similar to our own
Solar System than any known previously. The bright star HD70642, visible with binoculars
toward the constellation of Puppis, was already known to be a star like our Sun. Now a planet

发帖数: 51 | 48 STAR PARTY IN HONOLULU/HAWAII
这里有两种STAR PARTY。 一种在城市内，一种远离城市。
两种都是由HAS（HAWAII ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY）组织。
城市内的（两个SITE）每月一次，城市外的每月两次。此外他们每月有一次MEETING。
昨天我参加了一个城市内的。
尽管是城市内，但是我没车，只有RIDE BICYCLE过去，大概半个小时。
PARTY是在一个PARK内，天空不算很黑，毕竟在城市内。只是周围视野相对开阔一点。
有4-5个CLUB MEMBER在那里，大概5个SCOPE。2个DOB reflectors（12.5" and 10"),
2个REFRACTORS（5" AND 4"(NOT SURE)),还有1个MEADE MAK-CASSEGRAIN W GPS。
感觉这种STAR PARTY 主要是为社区民众普及天文知识服务。
我看到一大群小学生被一个老师带领在那里观测和听CLUB MEMBER 讲解，
还有零星几个民众。
昨天他们主要观测的内容是：

All 6 planets are transiting a Sun-like star (Kepler-11)
All orbits are within 0.5 AU
Planet masses range from ~2M_earth to <300M_earth
The article will appear on the Feb 03 issue of Nature.
Although this is not a true solar system analog yet, this discovery is
a milestone in exoplanet searches. |
