Washington DC 号称“City of Monuments”，大大小小的纪念碑和纪念堂不
计其数。其中Washington Monument是整个DC的最高建筑，也是DC建筑景观的
中心。这座建成于1884年的纪念碑高达169米，曾一度领衔全球最高建筑，直
到五年后被埃菲尔铁塔超过。纪念碑用白色大理石砌成，古埃及方尖塔式的
造型简洁优美，是DC最醒目的地标。仔细观察一下，会发现纪念碑的上下两
端颜色略有不同，原来是由于资金不足和南北战争，Washington Monument建
设中曾一度停工数十年，复工后建筑材料与原来的颜色不太一样，再加上有
个尖顶，便成了今天这种三色雪糕状。
Washington Monument的西侧，是刚建成不久的World War II Memorial。它给
我的第一印象比较平庸，缺乏纪念那场大战应有的震撼力。不过后来在

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said he plans to bring a White House team to
visit Washington state to meet with Gov. Jay Inslee in response to the
coronavirus outbreak in the state. A spokesperson for Pence confirmed his
visit will start Thursday in Olympia, Washington. At least nine people have
died from the coronavirus in Washington state and at least 27 are infected.

当妈妈的，肯定都会担心孩子的安全啊，如果恐怖分子来了攻击学校啊啥的怎么办？我
很害怕，马上打电话给 Washington Jay Robert Inslee 360-902-4111。我说可以想其
它方法帮助难民，但不要接他们来华州，毕竟谁能保证难民里不混有恐怖分子啊？
