It is not a Win2K domain. Win2K domain has some new features, such as
ADS.
The Win2K adv server can join a existed NT4 domain, or form a
child-domain.
That ADS compitable with Nt4 means that you can use a NT4 machine to
access the ADS
(Advanced Directory Services) contents and it can use NT4's resource
under ADS.
Also, ADS must be installed on a Win2K server, a domain controller.

有几点经验，或许对大家有用。
1. Useful Information:

Win2K还在BETA阶段，因此不要期望太高。
备份系统文件，MBR， Boot record on C. NT4 Resource Kit
中的DISKSAVE可以这么做。
2.Parition:
最好单独给Win2K一个Partition.用FAT16或NTFS均可，FAT32好象也行。
注意在安装选单的Advanced一栏里有些重要选项，比如是否把所在
PARTITION升级为NTFS。选好以后OK，就一切交给机器了。
注意到WIN2K用的NTFS是新版本,NT4 SP4支持，SP3则需要用Win2k的
NTFS.sys覆盖NT的版本。(assuming you have NT4 in the machine)
3.安装，时间很长，大概一个多小时吧。我出错的几次都是因为Driver
(Logitech Mouseman wheel)没有支 |

好像可以从98里面安装win2k，不要选择升级，选另装，这样98NG将被win2k识别。
开始装win2k时启动区已经做好，就不用继续了。我以前这样做是很成功的。
可是后来忘了到底win2k的安装进行到哪一步为止了 :(
哪位有经验补充一下 :) |

set the drivers/folders shared as before, and set the permission for
different levels as 'authenticated users', 'power users', or 'guest';
ps: you need to 'add these users and set passwd' if they don't exist.
2. on win9x pc
set win9x network as 'client for Microsoft Network', and restart. type
in the user name/passwd; then win9x user can see and share win2k resource.

I think I did a smart thing by partitioning my disc, so I installed win2k
again. Most of my data are in other discs, and my file in my documents can
be retrieved it seems.
still trying to kill the virus... but somehow can't get into safemode. I
tried to fix my win2k using emergency repair disc from another computer which
has win2k installed on E drive, the repair process installed antoher WINNT on
my F drive. Now, when I boot, I have to choose between two W2k, now to delete |

因为攻击一直没停止过，只好转到linux下。

并且正在安装SP1/3 for win2k professional.

在电源管理方面WIN2K要比98强得多。对于最新的ACPI规范，WIN98并不能自
动识别，需要你使用setup
/p:j（记不清了）或是在注册表中加ACPIOptions="1"再重新查找硬件来实现。
而WIN2K则可以安装时自动识别。如果你的电源同时支持标准ACPI规范，那么你
在control panel / power options能看到一些选项，可以设置当按下机箱上的
电源按纽时，WIN2000自动执行挂起、关机（当然是安全关机，决不是突然断电
）等操作之一。于是，以前学用WIN9X时被教育的“不能直接按开关，要用开始/
关闭来关机”的理论又要被枪毙了。这以前可是HP等原装机的专利，象HP机，有
个HP OFF软件，专门监视机箱电源按纽，如果被按下，就向WIN9X发出关机信号
。现在任何一台支持ACPI的主板都能实现了。一般来说BX主板大都支持ACPI，有
一些LX板也可通过刷BIOS来实现。
需要说明的是，有些键盘上有POWER按键，是在普通键盘的PRINT SCREEN位
置，当按下这个键时，也能引起和机箱电源按纽相同的操 |

FAT32 and NTFS, as u like, u can format all your
partitions as FAT32. or u can just format one
partition as NTFS for win2k.
win2k doesn't require your primary partition to be fat ,
it can be anything except ext2..:), no harm at all..
but just remember when install choose the option to
" I would like to choose partition to install" and
also no upgrade to NTFS and clean install (no upgrade
on win98).

1. Click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel and double click Regional
Options.
2. In the General tab, click Set Default button, set Chinese (PRC) as the
defualt.
3. Click OK and restart the computer.
4. Repeat the step 1.
5. In the Input Locales tab, click Add to add the input method and restart
the computer

1. some driver are not compaitable with win2k, you can
install them
in win2k without any problem and warnings, but just kill
the hibernate.
2. the MS Media Player 7 also made me sick. it will halt the
machine
during hibernate. so have to uninstall it.
ps. my machine is HP omnibook 4150. with D win2k, win 98 and
Mandrake 7 |

I am just wondering why DB2 can achieve sth like this. It is the most
slowest DBMS server in the world, :-)
Tghe server is win2k cluster, which is one of the most advanced technologies
MS boast of. But for ordinary PC wihtoug >16 cpu, NT is good enough.
For ordinary win2k server, it seems it will consume more memory than
its ancestor-winnt4 workstation. So I do not think it will have a better
performance if you have less than 256M memory, :-)

很久以前用过CstarNT，不好，也没有必要在WIN2K里装。
我的newPY IME是从国内的这个地址下载的。

newPY IME跟CstarNT一样也不认WIN2K。其实就是个安装
程序的问题，但是不知道Cstar对这个单独发行的IME是不
是还支持，将来会不会有2k版推出。临时解决办法如下。
1。在regional options里把language setting的simplified
chinese设成default，相信很多人已经这么干了。这个IME好
像只在双字节汉字环境下才工作。
2。把Newpy3212.zip解开，得到三个文件：newpy.hlp, newpy.bsl
和newpy32.ime。这三个文件的原来形式压缩的xxx.xx_，用
windows自带的expand.exe复原。拷贝到WINNT/system32目录。
3。把下面虚线之间的文字copy存成文件newpy.reg，然后双击运行。
也可直接去改注册表。 |

use a floppy disk either boot as old dos 6 or win9.x. Norton
ghost supports all previous OS.
my C drive is fat32, because direct CD (for hp burner) doesnt
support win2k yet and I have to recover 98 sometime.
I have a 20G drive, have 6G for backing up stuffs. I put ghost
in that patition. It is big enough to hold several image files
I dont even need to burn any CD. Burn a CD is not wise, whenever
you want to make a change and update you |

在DOS模式下运行WIN2K安装盘I386下的winnt.exe，在开始拷贝文件的1，2秒
内引导区就已经被重写了(有些主板需要按“Y”确认)，然后即刻可Ctl-Alt-Del
重启。这时候启动菜单除了WIN22k, Windows之外还会多个修理之类的选项，选原来
的WIN2K即可。然后可以把菜单的多余选项和C盘根目录上临时的目录删了就恢复原
状了。 |

密码, 却不问d:\temp也不象NT问connect as...怎么办? 因为我不
知道IPC$的password(试过administrator的, 不管用).
不过win98机器的share folder用win2k连过去没问题. |

但怎么说也不能不要用户名/密码就直接进人家的机器嘛。。。呵呵
我把同屋他的另一台笔记本设好了工作组连过来就要用户名/密码的。

另外还有4G不在扩展分区内
装linux时分了二个区
/hda3 Linux Native 3.4G
/hda4 swap 600M
lilo装在first boot sect,让2000启动boot loader
装好后，2000当然是起不来了
进入98，修改boot.ini
加入了linux项，还有就是修改2000的partition为
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced
Server" /fastdetect
保存后，2000启动成功了
我想问的是，这样会不会对其它在2000内装在E盘的应用软件会不会有影响？另外如果把l
inux native 和swap划到D和E逻辑分区后，怎么 |

Make The "Simplified Chinese" the default.
In my system (Pro.2195), everything is okay. At least, Netterm works wells for
mit BBS.
Press "Alt-shift", you may switch among your Input method.
I like Win2k very much.
Much more Stable, system never crashes after my installation. If an application
stop response, I can always kill it by the Task Manager.
The chinese support is another great improvment. I can even install Ch |

第一个就是个dos的命令解释器，但是主菜单里的command prompt链的不是它，而是
cmd.exe, 所以command.com最多是因为兼容原因保留下来的。你以通常的方法进的
comand prompt其实就是cmd.exe。
好了，还是回到command promt里输入中文的问题，其实以前的文章已经讨论很详细了，
就是把"Language Setting for the system"的default改成简体中文(随后需要重启，
这不是把locale设成中国)。这个方法至少保证WIN2K自带的输入法可以为command line
工作。如果你的确如上设置还不行，那是有其他问题。 |

I have been tried the beta versions from time to time and I am
using the final version now. Overall I like it a lot, it is faster
than NT4 and at least as stable. The builtin chinese system is
fully functional (though not as convenient as richwin for
pinyin/phrases input). It is even a bit hard to get
back to NT for me :) However, you should keep in mind that
there are still a lot of compatibility problems. Right now my
win2k is missing an appropriate driver for my xerox printer,

输入），以及用比较特殊的方法安装一些WIN2000本身不带的输入法，比如五笔
或智能ABC。
最近比较流行的有三个WIN2000版本：中文界面的BETA3(2031)，英文界面的
RC1
(2072)/RC2(2128)，容易给人一个错觉，只有那个2031是支持中文的，其它的两
个版本是纯粹的英文版。这是我们根据对以前的WINDOWS的常识得出来的，可是
在WIN2000下并不是这样。有些朋友还为此抱着很不稳定的2031不放，而不用已
经很具正式版品质的RC1/RC2，实在是不划算。
RC1/RC2可以称为“国际版”，因为它界面虽然始终是英文，但实际上可以
安装各种
语言的语言包，让它支持相应语种的应用程序。IE4刚推出的时候就有了“语言
包”的概念，英文的WIN9X+英文的IE+中文的语言包，就可以浏览中文的网站了
，不用南极星一类的工具。WIN2000把这个“语言包”的概念由IE扩展到了整个
操作系统，仔细看一下WIN2000安装盘I386\LANG这个目录，里面就有若干代表 |
